Abortion is Not the Only Way Murder, gruesome death. Blameless, infants. These terms do not belong together, but sad-ly, “every twenty- two seconds; a baby dies from abortion” (Physicians crusade against abortion). The Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 legalized that a woman, along with her doctor, could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without restriction, and with limitations in later months (Lay of the land mines). Unexpected pregnancies commonly end in a termination of life. Scared and confused, women assume that an abortion is the only option. Women, who are considering abortion for personal reasons, should instead choose adoption. Adoption is the second choice, as well as the better choice.

of the largest debatable issues in American Society. There are so many aspects and views to examine before one can even begin to form their own opinion. Politi-cian's views are quite different than the views of a religious person. The most important aspect to consider is the medical side of abortion. There are so many medical facts that make abortion very dangerous. There isn’t any reason for an abortion because there are so many other alternatives. After researching the facts, and seeing the medical, political and religious views, I believe most of our society would agree with me in saying abortion should not be an option. Clinical research provides a growing body of scientific evidence that having an abortion can cause psychological as well as physical harm to women (The physician’s crusade).
Many times, after an abortion, women feel worthless and victimized because they failed at the most natural of human activities- the role of being a mother. Many women who have had an abortion also suffer from Post-abortion Syndrome (New Zealand Herald). Women suffering from PAS may experience drug and alcohol abuse, sexual dysfunction, personal relationship disorders, re-peated abortions, communication difficulties, damaged self-esteem and they might even attempt suicide (New Zealand Herald). Many women may think that abortion is the only way, but why suffer all of these consequences when there are other …show more content…
options? Even using anesthesia, 97% of women experience pain during an abortion.
They may experience complications such as bleeding, hemorrhage, laceration of the cervix, menstrual dis-turbance, inflammation of their productive organs, and serious infection (The Physical Crusade). Death of the mother is the most serious danger of abortions, but has been very rare. Some evi-dence has been shown that abortion can increase the risks of breast cancer (Lay of land mines).
It is hard to understand politicians; politicians will often say what they think the public wants to hear, and not what they truly believe. Even though the issue has polarized mainstream political parties, “almost all state Democratic Party platforms support abortion while almost all state Republican Party platforms oppose it” (Lay of land mines). When looking at this infor-mation it is still hard to believe that anyone could be for abortion because it is the termination of life, and should not be something that you can just say what people want to hear about
it. There have been many lawsuits about abortion, but the most important was the Roe vs. Wade case in 1973. “The ruling stated that a woman and her doctor may freely decide to termi-nate a pregnancy during the first trimester; however, state governments can restrict abortion ac-cess after the first trimester with laws intended to protect the woman's health Abortions after fe-tal viability must be available if the woman's health or life is at risk, and state governments can prohibit other abortions” (Abortion Notification Act). To the best of my knowledge, those laws are still enforced today, though there are consistent efforts to outlaw abortion completely.
The importance of outlawing abortion leads me to my next point. A poll conducted by the Dayton Right to Life Society states that the 2,000,000 couples ready and waiting to adopt in the United Sates severely overwhelm the 50,000 babies placed for adoption each year. Adoption is a practical alternative to abortion. All across the world there are adoption agencies who pre-cisely match children with suitable families. Adoption agencies are reliable and provide families for the children brought to them.
American Adoptions is a private adoption agency established on the principle that lives of children can change for the better through adoption. Their website is full of touching testimonials shared by birthmothers who chose adoption. One of the mothers, Carol Ann, was pregnant while involved in an abusive marriage. Carol took immediate action and decided to leave her life behind her forever and give her child to another family. Carol is confident with the decision she made because she knows she saved a life (birthstories.org). This website holds over fifty stories like Carols, all filled with birth mothers claiming the confidence they have in their decision.
Many families are on waiting lists, hoping every day to receive a call explaining that there is a child waiting for them. If all abortions ceased, the number of families on waiting lists to adopt would drop drastically. Women commonly want to adopt because they are unable to have children of their own. As a woman, one of the most highly respected and rewarding experiences of her life is giving birth. When women are barren, they are likely to be depressed because they feel God has not blessed them. By putting a child up for adoption, it not only saves a child’s life, but also gives a woman or a family a child to call their own. The gift of life is the most precious gift of all.
Religious views of abortion vary, but overall, most churches are highly against abortion. The Roman Catholic Church believes that all abortions are a form of murder. However, a number of liberal and mainline Christian churches and religious organizations have pub¬licly stated that abortions are sometimes an acceptable option, and should continue to be legal. I am not a very religious person, so I am not one to say whether and abortion is right or wrong in the religious aspect, but I still believe this is important because a woman’s fait can change her mind.
The public opinion of abortion is very hard to de¬termine. I believe everyone has his or her own opinion, and reason to support it. I believe that if a woman is responsible enough to have sex, then she should be responsible enough to think of the consequences and do the right thing. I think what we, as a country, need to do is educate about pregnancy and protection, rather than discuss abortion. If prevention were as large a topic of discussion as abortion is, then there would not be as many pregnant women thinking about getting an abortion. That is a major de¬cision to make.
In conclusion abortion should be outlawed unless completely necessary because it is a form of murder, there are many families on the waiting list to adopt a child and terminating a life can take away a person’s chance of having a kid they could love, and abortion can cause pain for the mother after it is done. The taking away a child chance at life is like torcher to hear about, but think if you were that child.
