Why does elder abuse happen If there is an abusive style of interaction where the family relates to eachother in a non-mannerly way. There may also be unreasolved problems within the family which can prompt elder abuse. An elder may have also become very dependent on someone(s). Because of this it can heavily tax one’s body and mind. This in tow lead to a path of abusive behavior. The adult children who have experince life crises have abusive episodes. They also beat them out of resentment of the parent for talking about personal things outside of the house. Those who are financially reliant on the elder can experince abusive episodes. The adult child tends to despise the elderly person if they become to dependent. It is made even worse if they have long term relationship problems.
Spouse/Partners who feel resentment for thier loss of freedom. When incessant psychological battered people overract, they take thier anger out on they person they are taking care of. This is even more dangerous if the spouse has thier own problems. Malicous staff members in elder institions who see an elder overly dependent of the nursing home care see them as easy prey. A pateint’s illness they can be easy to manipulate. Some staff members use physical abuse as punishment like striking, or silencing thier cries, and they often abuse the use of restraints. They may also fail to treat an elder’s illness and fail to provide them with necessary medical test.
