The Battle of Fallen Timbers started on Wednesday, August 20, 1794. The battle took place on the lower Maumee River Valley which is the present state of Ohio. Major General Anthony Wayne was encamped with a military force of 3,700 men, 2,000 of whom were part of the regular United States Army. The rest were Kentucky mounted militia. Fighting the Americans were some 2,000 hostile Indians. The Indians were allies of the British and the British had just recently built Fort Miamis. After several months began the Battle of Charleston on Wednesday, March 29, 1780 at Charleston, South Carolina. The Battle of Charleston was one of the last battles of the American Revolution and one of the last victories of the British. The British had tried to approach Charleston by water and had failed to reach the city during their first attempt. There are times in one’s life that they can look back upon and be truly proud of themselves. Laying the wreath at the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier is one of those opportunities. Not only does one get to honor all who have fought and died for this country, but they get to do it in a way that is remembered and cherished for the rest of their lives. And honoring these soldiers allows one to do something greater than just in their town, something greater than in their school, and something so great, that it leaves the dullness of suburbia behind. Opportunities like these can change lives; a bad kid can have an opportunity like this, and it could set them down a better and safer path. But it isn't just bad kids who need events like this; everyone needs these…

Located in Northern Alberta at the confluence of the Athabasca and Clearwater Rivers, Fort McMurray is a frontier urban settlement, and the primary service centre for the Athabasca tar sands— the world’s third largest known oil deposit (Dorow and O'Shaughnessy, 2013). Records dating as far back as the 1700s point to the Chipewyan and Beaver peoples being indigenous to the Athabasca region, with present day First Nations having largely descended from the Dene, Cree, and Métis people. In 1870, following European colonization, the land was established as a Hudson’s Bay Trading Post, and remained a remote outpost of less than one thousand people until the creation of the Great Canadian Oil Sands Campany in the 1960s. As Major and Winters (2013, p.143) note, “Fort McMurray existed before the oil sands industry. It is not the result of a corporate takeover nor is it a classical company town. However, like all resource towns, it exists”— albeit in its current form— “because of fixed, valued resources that multinational corporations want to commodify.”…

On April 12, 1861, the Confederacy declared war against the Union because both the South and the North had different outtakes on U.S problems. The Civil War began in 1861 and ended in 1865, but along the way it caused lots of geographic changes. Although it ended four years later, many problems damaged both sides of the United States, especially the South. Southern women faced starvation and poverty when their husbands and sons, who took care of the farms, went away to war. In the South, there were many riots by women demanding for supplies to provide for their families during this time. The Union would often steal crops and livestock from the South, causing the Southerners to have no food to give to their families.…

We left Fort Kearny, and currently following the south side of the Platte River, we reached the California Crossing, but we had to cross sandbars, and almost landed on one that wasn't stable. We reached a steep hill once we had got done crossing the river. I was explaining to everyone that we need to stop, so we could remove something to make it easier on us. I had dumped some of my books, I was saddened by this because it reminded of my wife, and she loved to read. Anyway, how we moved the wagon down was by tying rope to a nearby tree and slowly descending the wagon downward, I also locked the wagon wheels by putting in blocks of wood and sliding it into the wheels. When we got done going down the hill, we had to help all the other wagons,…

It has been in government use for decades since it was sold back to the government in 1953, housing the Education Department, the Victoria District Court, the Supreme Court and the Information Service Department successively. Built with red bricks and granite, with a dome and Doric/Ionic styled columns, it is one of the few remaining neo-classical styled buildings in HK.
