35 girls to attend of 2,000 students. Her mom did not want her to attend this school due to the fact it was an hour away from her home. Her father disagreed and decided he wanted the best education for his daughter. At this school she had dreams of becoming a doctor. Her dreams of becoming a doctor were crushed when she suffered from a horrific bus accident that nearly killed her. She had multiple fractures of her spine, collarbone, and ribs, a shattered pelvis, broken foot and a dislocated shoulder. She had about 30 operations in her lifetime. Her accident caused her to be in a full body cast and on bed rest for a long healing process. This is when she pursued her career to be a painter. Other than Kahlo extremely rough life, she had a love life as well which wasn't that much better.
Kahlo was married to Diego Rivera also a painter. Diego and Frida had met when Frida had began to pursue her art career. She looked up to his paintings and was sure he could educate her with some helpful hints and tips to began her art career. He realized her beautiful talent and fell in love with her. They were married in 1929 , even though her parents didn’t really approve. Her parents did not approve due to the age difference in which Frida was 22 and Diego was 42. Frida and Diego's relationship was rough. They both had numerous affairs, Diego with many women and Frida with men and women. She was bisexual and didn't really know what she wanted. Diego and Frida were divorced and then remarried , The second time around the relationship remained pretty much the same.
Diego Rivera was one of the leading artist in the 20th century. He was born on December 8, 1886 in Guanajuato, Mexico. He started his art career very early, beginning with simple drawings. At age 10, He attended the San Carlos Academy of fine arts.
Frida Kahlo’s paintings in my opinion described her life. Out of 143 portraits each one describes her pain and her rough struggles in life. 55 of them were self portraits of Frida.
SELF PORTRAIT IN A VELVET DRESS
This was one of Frida’s early self portraits. She used this painting “ as a token of love to regain affection from her love Alejandro.” This was her first love
before Diego Rivera. The painting had worked and they had got back together. Shortly they broke up due to Alejandro leaving for Europe.
DIEGO AND FRIDA
Frida painted this for her husband Diego as a present for their 15th wedding anniversaryaniversary. She later created another portrait very similarsimiliar to this one to keep for her self. This portrait shows her strong passionate love for Diego. As seen on the picture to the left both their faces are put together , basically saying that they complete each other and that’s their other half.
In this painting Frida shows her pain as she was put on a force fed diet. She became very sick and malnourished and did not eat. She shows the struggle of being forced to eat. WITHOUT HOPE
Frida unfortunately died on July 13, 1954. They say the official cause of death was pulmonary embolism. Others believe it may have been suicide due to the fact she had wrote in her diary a few days before, “ I hope the exit is joyful- and I hope to never return.” She was a beautiful, talented individual with an extremely rough life. She is still viewed as a famous painter by many Americans today
