IV. THE TELESCOPE
Galileo was interested in all things mathematics and science that in 1609 he developed his own telescope. His telescope may have not been the first one ever invented but he definitely perfected it by making his telescope reach a magnifying power of 32 times greater. Galileo was such a skilled telescope builder that his telescope was highly requested all over Europe as it was the only telescope that could be used for astronomical observations.
In the following year, Galileo began his astronomical research and soon made sensational discoveries. He discovered the first moons ever known to orbit another planet besides Earth. With a magnifying power of 20 times greater than the original telescope, Galileo was able to make out the rings of Saturn. His telescope also allowed him to see other stars that were not visible with the naked eye and so he discovered that the Milky Way consisted of many stars. He published all his astronomical revelations in a short book called the Starry Messenger in Venice [4].
