Who was David?
The story of David is well detailed on bible on the books of Samuel, 1 Kings, and 1 Chronicles. He was the second and considered the greatest king of Israel after King Saul on the period of 1010-970 BCE. He was the youngest of the eight sons of Jesse. David is also known as composer, singer of palms and also known as brave warrior for killing Goliath, or giant of Gath in the bible.
The story of King David began when he was young and was anointed by prophet Samuel to be the next King of Israel. After that, “the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward” and “the spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul” (I Samuel Chapter 16:13-14). According to The Bible, on “1 Chronicles 11”, all people of Israel gather together and went to Hebrom, where David was reigning, to ask David to be their new King. So, “David made a covenant with them at Hebron and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by prophet Samuel” (1 Chronicles 11:3). During the reigning of David in Israel, he made the city of Jerusalem the capital.
David reigned Israel for forty years and during this year he brought peace to all its nation. David then get older and he died in the age between 70-75. His Son, Salomon, then become his successor and heir, and he built the first temple in Jerusalem, which was to be the permanent home of the ark of covenant. There, people make burned offerings of animals, grain, and oil, to the divine and it later became the central place for sacrifice.
