Natalie’s Story
Natalie went to an all-girls private school in 7th and 8th grade. There, she was targeted by a group of “mean girls”. Natalie's bullying experience started out small. The definition of bullying is “verbal, social, or physical aggression towards a targeted person”. Often times, bullying is caused by an imbalance of power. This would explain Natalie’s bullying. She was the “new girl”. Bullying occurs most often on school property. This includes the school building, school grounds, or buses.
Bullying is a lot more common than it seems. 1 in 3-4 kids report that they have been bullied in school. About 21% of students ages 8-12 experience bullying, and about 20% of students age 14-18 experienced bullying on school grounds. Not only children are bullied though. Bullying also occurs in adults.
One thing that makes people more likely to get bullied is if they are considered “different” from the rest of the crowd. And one reason people are most likely to bully others if they are taught to not like a certain group of people.
There are different types of bullying. These include verbal, social, physical, and cyber-bullying. Verbal bullying is when someone uses words to hurt someone else. Social bullying is ruining people's’ reputation or relationships. Physical bullying is hurting someone
