Horses are cool and all but you know what makes a horse even cooler? Wings make it cooler and being immortal too. This is a paper about the Greek, immortal, winged horse, Pegasus. Pegasus was mostly known as a horse that is white and rarely depicted otherwise. He got his name because he was believed to make an appearance by the sources of Oceanus. The birth of Pegasus was not average like a normal horse. Infact, his parents weren’t even horse. His were Poseidon, god of the seas and one of the three Gorgons, Medusa (“Pegasus”, GreekMythology). Here, Pegasus was taken care of by the Nine Muses but owned by Athena herself. To be said, out of pure, overwhelming joy, Pegasus struck the side of the mountain. Doing this, he caused the springs to burst into fountains of lucid inspiration which quickly became sacred to the Muses.
Being very much appreciated, loved, and cared for by all the Nine Muses, one of them saw some quite specific in the hybrid’s future. This Muse knew that knew that Pegasus had a bright destiny filled with honor. She sensed that he would be more than what he is. Pegasus would be a hero. Urania, who was the Muse of Astronomy and Universal Love, was the one who saw the most potential in Pegasus’s future. Bellerophon was great warrior and son of Poseidon and Eurynome. His life was in trouble when he killed his possible brother and because of this, was exiled. (Bellerophon) With this recent, he went to the king to ask for forgiveness. The king, Proetus, agreed and Bellerophon’s sins were cleansed. All is fine and dandy until Proetus's wife, Stheneboea, told Proetus that he, Bellerophon, tried to seduce her though this was not the case because Stheneboea tried to seduce him but being the humble person he is, he rejected which made her angry. This hurt Bellerophon badly and hurt and angered the king even more. Not wanting cease the anger within him by killing Bellerophon, he sent him away to his father-in-law, King Iobates to deal with the matter.
