Even though we are focusing on the Sexual Revolution of the 1960-1980s, the term "sexual revolution" has been referred to since the late 1920s. Some people believed the sexual revolution of 1960–1980 was the second sexual revolution of America and the first revolution was during the 1920s after World War I . However, the act of changes in awareness and practices of this revolution that developed from around 1960 was aimed to reach mainstream, middle-class America. It brought about reflective adjustments in the attitudes towards women’s sexuality, homosexuality, pre-marital sex and the freedom of sexual expression. It was a development in the modern world which saw the major changes and values of ethics that were rooted into the brains of the Christian tradition and its followers. This was considered the rise of non-judgmental societies and of attitudes that were accepting of greater sexual freedom and experimentation that spread all over the world and labelled as "free love". Modern medicine also played a role as penicillin was on the rise and was to largely eradicate syphilis and this brought greater freedom in sexual adventures
