Tuesday: Journal – You have a plane ticket to anywhere in the world/ Where would you go? Why?…
When I was in the 7th grade I heard an interesting story of life experiences from my friend. She was doing a presentation at my school about her life in Peru. I began to think about it, but I didn’t know that I seriously wanted to become an exchange student until I was in 8th grade.…
As long as I can remember, I had always wanted to fly on an airplane. As I got older I dreamed of traveling to another country. I had a desire to see new places and learn new things. I wanted to experience a new culture, the food, the language, and another way of life.…
Have you ever been 1,376.1 miles from home? I have - 2 years ago. 2 years ago I went to Carbondale, Colorado. I was only 15 and had never been that far away from my friends, family, and home. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been exposed to so many wonderful experiences, opportunities, and cultures. I remember when I first received the email officially accepting me into the High School High Scholar (HS)2 Program. All I could do was think of all of the fun I was going to have and try to imagine how beautiful it was going to be. I started to imagine all of the dreams and possibilities that I had accomplished as of that moment. I realized that my future was actually in my hands. There were so many questions and things I was uncertain about. There were so many people I forgot that I was going to miss. There were so many things I wasn’t ready to leave or say goodbye to.…
This journey your about to experience may take up to several days. I hope you’ve packed well. We will be going through seas, acid rains, and dry, desert like conditions. So without wasting any more time let me give you a play by play of your vacation!…
The school had made an announcement that said that our senior trip had been accepted and that it would be on May 15th and it would only last three days. It was August 4th, and there was a total of almost 260 days until the trip of a lifetime would arrive. I was counting down the days that would eventually lead up to the trip of a lifetime. The trip was four days away and I was excited as ever, this is the first thing I have done on my own, this is finally a sense of freedom for…
Instead of going to the typical high school like my peers from middle school, I choose to travel 3-4 hours every day for a dual-enrollment program that challenges my mind and abilities every day. This fall, I will be attending University of California, Santa Barbara, under the Global Studies program. I will get a job to support my college education, and I will pursue internships, minors, and study abroad at every opportunity. I am going to become a diplomat through the U.S. Foreign Service, and I will explore the world, making change, helping people, and most importantly, gaining a broader insight of what makes the world tick. The more I travel, the more I will see, and as I learn I intend on using my knowledge to solve major problems and crises and leave the largest positive impact on the world I am capable of, with the help of those I…

Paul Fussell once said, “All the pathos and irony of leaving one’s youth behind is thus implicit in every joyous moment of travel: one knows that the first joy can never be recovered, and the wise traveler learns not to repeat successes, but tries new places all the time.” Going around the world would be a fascinating goal for the future. Meeting new people and getting to grasp what the world is like . Traveling would be interesting to do in the future because first I can challenging myself, second the adventures, and third to appreciate life.…
Life is about making choices, but some of them can even change our life. Two years ago I decided to come to America for my higher studies in Western Kentucky University. Although I knew it was really a challenge to me, this significant decision that I’ve made was going to change everything about my life and me. There are many things in life that can change the course of a person’s life. It can either make a positive impact or a negative impact on a person’s life. It’s always best to have the positive impact though. For me I have had a positive experience that has changed my life forever and that is coming to a different land and culture.…
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” –Oliver Wendell Holmes. One day, I was walking around campus with my friend Faith when both of us stumbled upon a sign in the elevator that mentioned a trip to Europe to study our favorite parts of history. From that minute and on both of us knew we had to look into this one of a kind trip. A few days later we attended the course meeting for the trip both of us looked at each other, nodding our heads in excitement. This was when we finally and completely decided this trip would be for us and we would do everything in our power to go. I was hoping this adventure would show me the people, places, and things that I had heard about in books but also more. I…
Sometimes, I would think about what would’ve happened if I were not rejected from all the summer programs I applied to. I would’ve been funded to interact with others who would share my interests instead of coming straight to terms with the ruggedly barren road…

“It’s not about the destination, but about what you learn on the journey.” Two years ago on April 27 my family and I woke up at 7:00 in the morning to board a Southeast Airline plane to go to Jacksonville Florida. When I was first woken up I could smell the eggs and bacon my mom had cooked prior to her waking everybody up. I looked to my left and saw to pink duffle bags that held the clothes I had just bought for the trip, and lifted the bag on my shoulders and walked to the living room to sit them next to my sixteen year old sister’s four black duffle bags.…
Growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone, you began to lock yourself in, and may forget who you are as a person. As for me my mind was set that I wouldn’t let that happen, but I had anxiety about traveling far from my small town. I decided it was time to break that anxiety to take a trip, to a place far away from my small town I call home, that place being called New York. This trip is what changed my mind about traveling and my outlook on life. I was simple minded, never thought outside of the box. I discovered a new place that indirectly triggered my outlook on life, and opened my mind! I suffer from anxiety among many other things, so I was bound to have anxiety about going to a place I have never been to before right? Once I stepped off that plane, I had felt like I had seen a new world. The best part about it was, I had no feeling of anxiety for once in my life! If I had never gone on this trip I wouldn’t have known how to look at life and mold it into my own.…
