While the theories on the artist intent are of plenty, there is no mistaking that this piece provokes deeper contemplation on the depiction of beauty and the power of “ugly” imagery in this painting. One can argue that over vast time periods and amongst culture the defined interpretation of beauty has seen many profound depictions and interpretations displayed in infinite works of “beautiful” art. We must ask ourselves, can only works of “beauty” be aesthetically pleasing to the eye or can we find it in a variety of work through…

Graffiti art is intrinsically deviant or criminal behaviour. If there is not an illegal aspect to the creation or perpetuation of the artwork, it is not graffiti art. In most cities, painting or writing graffiti art is illegal and has legal con- sequences. Trespassing, criminal mischief, vandalism, and defacement of public property are just a few charges brought against an artist caught writing or painting…

The artwork that I have chosen to critique is by an American artist named Robert Motherwell, (1915 -1991). The particular piece I have chosen is called "Open" # 150 in black and cream 1970 acrylic on canvas 69 x 204 1/4 inches at the Modern Museum. This artwork is a symmetrical balanced abstract painting that is about 41 years old and is horizontal in its organization and is made up of one neutral color cream rectangle inside at the top of one large intense black color rectangle. Counting a total of 7 actual lines, three straight vertical and four straight horizontal lines. The large rectangle is an extremely intense black color which contrasts dramatically with the off white (cream) rectangle. The colors in the painting are brilliant and extremely appealing to the eye. It was the first artwork that I came across and focused the…

This building once the seat of Parliament is now one of the second most-visited tourist attractions in Germany and was built in 1871. To get this project approved, Christo and Jeanne-Claude had to gain the Parliament 's approval. In order to do this, they personally went from office to office, and they wrote many letters to each of the 662 members. On February 25, 1995 the Parliament held a debate and after 70 minutes the project was approved. This was a huge project with 600,000 feet of polypropylene fabric that had to be fireproof and nine miles of rope used. It took seven days to wrap the building and was finished on June 24th. Over five million visitors saw this…

Artists in the urban graffiti movement carried out their work among the cities they lived in. It becomes relevant to document their work to enhance society’s perception regardless of the legal concerns. By documenting their work, Mr. Brainwash captures the artists’ insight and motivation behind his or her form of art expression. The Compromise of 1877 marked the dawn of a new era in American History. Most events after the compromise, decades down the road, are direct results of the compromise. Specifically blacks were most affected by this. Rights they were promised when they fought with the north in the civil war were gone. The rights were not taken away per say, but simply not enforced. The compromise that most likely saved the nation from breaking back into civil war had a snowball effect on the lives of everybody after it was made.…

Graffiti is the voice of the streets; an “underground” way of communication, though recently, it has become more mainstream. Some artists say it’s lost its meaning, and the newer artists are just in it for the money. ”It used to be about getting whatever was in your head out,” says SERVANT, another artist, “That’s what I want to bring back.”…
