How do bars survive in St. Julian’s, Malta?
Aim of the Study
This paper aims to investigate the current situation of the bars in St. Julian’s, and come up with a series of solutions to help those bars make improvements.
Research Objectives
To critically review the literature related to operation of bars, and the situation of region St. Julian’s. The situation of St. Julian’s mainly contains macro environment like government, place, climate, and culture, etc. For operation, the literature will include running, cost saving, pricing, promoting, etc.
To access the guests and staffs in those bars, combining with literature, analysis the situation of bars there which include competitors, customers, promotions, and cost-saving, etc. Making a SWOT analysis as assist.
To provide recommendations to those bars, give suggestion for a better operation. Provide reference for further study.
Literature Review
1. Introduction to Malta and St. Julian’s
The republic of Malta is an archipelago located in the southern Mediterranean Sea. Blessing location offers Malta a pleasant subtropical Mediterranean climate. Natural harbors and beaches due to 197 kilometers coastline increase attractions. A dynamic history of invasions and influences give Malta a rich culture heritage for tourists to discover. (O’Donnell & Jennifer 2013) Maltese and English as official languages assisted by German, Italian and Arabic add up convenience for people from everywhere in the world to travel here. The number of travelers is around 1.3 million (2009).
St. Julian’s, which is called “San Ġiljan” in Maltese, locates in the northeast of the biggest island, Island Malta, in Malta. This city is famous of its night life (Malta.com). There is a street called St. George which consisted by around 30 bars is the focus of this research.
The tax of alcohol in Malta obeying the European standard, is made up with excise tax and value added tax (VAT). Excise tax, based on the e quantity of alcohol
