Towson University was once known as the Maryland State Normal School for the instruction of teachers in 1864. Two years after being created in 1864 the school opened its doors with McFadden Alexander Newell being its president. Newell had goals to establish model schools for teachers to practice their skills and see first-hand how what they have learned worked on elementary students. Unfortunately, these practice schools were often across town because of space limitations.…

Series of traumatic events occurred while residential school were running, but it left a scars on aboriginal people forever. As an aboriginal women I get a lot of understanding from Pauline Johnsons “As it was in the beginning”, growing up on the Six Nation Reserve and having meet people who have experienced the same things as Pauline. Residential schools were open between the 1980’s and the 1990’s and the last school did not close until 1996, the year I was born. Pauline writes, “No more, no more the tepees; no more the wild stretch of prairie, the intoxicating fragrance of the smoke-tanned buckskin; no more the bed of buffalo hide, the soft, silent moccasin; no more the dark faces of my people, the dulcet cadence of the sweet Cree tongue”…
In Barry’s story, “The Sanctuary School,” she shows or explains how family stress makes her go unnoticed. Being nervous and anxious about getting to school, seven year old Barry, snuck out. (Barry 857) As she snuck out and proceeded to school, her family did not wake up in panic in search for her. She explains, “…instead of two parents in a panic to locate an answer it the hard question of survival during a deep financial and emotional crisis”(Barry 857). This quote shows how her brother and she have had the opportunity to become un-noticed or invisible. As she made it to her school, she felt safe as she saw people that she knew. All the employees that saw her showed her attention and recognition. The janitor, Mr.Gunderson, spotted her first,…

An example is Luke Peterson, a geologist visiting Fond Du Lac reservation to investigate a earthquake, also saw visions of officer Goodfeather killing himself. Luke Peterson also talked to Pete Goodfeather about the residential school and asked “why haven’t they learnt about the residential school in school”. This revealed how non-aboriginal were not well educated about the past activities that impacted aboriginals and many others. Other non-aboriginal, like the mayor are ignorant to historical globalization as he wants to take down the residential school to build a resort. Paul Gunderson, the mayor is only thinking of the economy as he believes that taking down the school will benefit everyone because it would bring in jobs.…
Imagine, disappointed students as they are at a disadvantage in scholarship competitions from students in other school districts because they have fewer AP classes than the next kid. They are put further in debt as they waste money unsure of what their major should be. In the school, classes are have far too many students in a class making it very difficult to teach. Teachers struggling to properly prep for and handle the workload of 5 different classes. This is not something one has to imagine, because this the reality at East Jordan Middle High School. East Jordan is facing all of these problems, because EJMHS is understaffed. East Jordan does not have enough teaching staff as they must to run a school. All of these problems have one solution…
The Roth and Sindermann cases are the legal precedents for assessing the procedural rights of nontenured teachers (See Figure 12.1). Because the Supreme Court has held that impairment of an employee’s property or liberty interests triggers procedural protections, the question arises as to what constitutes a violation of these interests. Courts have purposely avoided precisely defining the concepts of liberty and property, preferring to allow experience and time to shape their meanings. Since 1972, the Supreme Court and federal appellate courts have rendered many decisions that provide guidance in understanding these concepts.…

First of all, I am for replacing detention because many kids will not change their behavior about being out of control And will instead keep doing what they are doing because they are so angry. That is why I’m for replacing detention. “Misbehaving kids are encouraged to sit in the room And go through practices like breathing or meditation, helping them calm down And re-center. Author James Gaines wrote from ¨This School Replaced Detention With Meditation. The Results Are Stunning.¨ First of all, With exercises And having to rethink their thoughts, students would then learn And know that what they were doing was wrong And that instead of having a subsequent punishment, they will do better in school And most likely wouldn't do the wrong thing…

The first time I fell asleep in class was during a math lecture in middle school. With the warm ambience and lights dimmed, the room felt dream-like to sit in, and quickly tempted me into a true dreaming state. That first slip of consciousness marked the beginning of an arduous journey though, and for the following six years, the time I spent asleep threatened to overwhelm my few remaining waking hours.…
