The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology released a similar definition in their position paper, it stated that resistance training is a “specialized method of conditioning that involves the progressive use of a wide range of resistive loads, including body mass, and a variety of training modalities designed to enhance health, fitness, and sport performance” (Behm, 2007). These definitions are similar to what can be found in the statement of the National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as countless other articles and academic journals. With these definitions in mind, we can then look at what aspects are used to form a proper resistance training program for …show more content…
This was a small, ten week study with twelve participants. The children trained three times a week, at the conclusion of the ten week were tested based on a three kilometer run. The results showed that resistance training can enhance the aerobic power of the young athletes (2015). This, along with other studies, provides proof that resistance training can aid in making children faster. With resistance training giving young athletes the opportunity to be both faster and stronger it is only expected that these children would be better at their sports than their other untrained children. This is because that with increased speed and strength the children who are trained are able to “learn proper technique more rapidly and progress at a faster rate than their counterparts” (Pierce et al., 2009). The ability of learn sports skill fasted than other children give the ones who do resistance training a large leg up on the competition. Research shows that children who part take in resistance training are, athletically, better, faster and
