Recently my Facebook page has been filled with posts about Koalton Peterson. Koalton and I went to school together, in fact we were locker buddies for 2 out of the 3 years we went to school together. When I knew him, he was just an average teenage boy; but that was 3 years ago. People can change over time, obviously, but no one would have ever thought Koalton would end up where he is now. What happened almost a year ago was completely unexpected, surprising and totally out of character for Koalton. \ On November 27th, 2012 Ryan M. Smith had arrived at the friend’s house that Koalton was staying at, after a heated argument via texting with Koalton. Apparently, the reason for the argument was because Ryan was angry that Koalton couldn't come up with the amount of weed that Ryan wanted when he wanted it. When Ryan arrived at Koalton's residence, Koalton was waiting outside for Ryan with a baseball bat. Koalton struck Ryan in the head, knocking him unconscious. Koalton proceeded to beat Ryan with the bat for several minutes before Ryan’s girlfriend got out of the car and called 911. Ryan died on December 1st, 2012 at UW Hospital. Koalton’s final court date was a few weeks ago, and that is what started the whole Facebook drama. Koalton is being charged with and plead guilty to second-degree reckless homicide and aggravated battery in the death. Koalton is being sentenced to 20 years in prison and then 10 years of probation. The reason why my Facebook friends are freaking out about this whole situation is because this is Koalton’s first offense; he has no criminal record. Support pages are being made to “Free Koalton”. To counter act these support pages, people are making Facebook pages to support Ryan’s family “Justice for Ryan” and pages to support the judge’s choice to put Koalton in jail. I see these pages and try to stay out of it. Sure, Koalton was my friend but what he did, is horrendous. I don’t think it is time well spent arguing about with people who

In the morning when Stephanie’s body was found and police called, they interviewed each and every family member, but focused on Michael and two of his closest friends. According to a 2003 New York Times Upfront article, Michael “was questioned for 27 hours over a three day period” (Bell, n.d.). Due to the police believing that Michael and his friends were the ones who committed this crime against his own sister, he wasn’t able to go to her funeral; instead he was being interrogated by authorities and preparing for trial.…

Their is no explanation behind why the Planned Parenthood clinic was targeted, but Dear had told investigators “no more baby parts” after his arrest. This leads investigators to believe he was acting on an anti-abortion agenda (Coffman). A policeman and two civilians were killed in the attack, and several more people were injured. Dear was taken in before a judge over video feed from the prison on Monday. Dear was wearing a protective vest to prevent him from harming himself when he appeared in front the court.
