Respondents of the Study

The proponent selected the high school students of Villamor High School to be the respondents of the study, preferably the freshmen and sophomore students. The proponent had came up with 119 students as respondents having 50 representatives from the first year level, 61 from the second year level and 8 representatives from the game enthusiasts/software programmers. The proponent also chose some software programmers and game enthusiasts as the respondents of the study.

Sampling Technique
Stratified Random Sampling was utilized in the study. The technique generally divided total population into two or more strata. For each stratum, the sample items were drawn at random. The population had been divided into subgroups (group/strata). The subgroups of where we obtained a representative sample of the population was calculated in percentage in the total population with the used of the stratified sampling technique.

The formula in calculating the sample size is as follow: Ss = NV + [ Se2 ( 1-p ) ] NSe + [ V2 x p( 1-p )]

where : Ss - Sample size N - Total number of population
V - The standard value (2.58) of 1 percent level of probability with 0.99 reliability Se - Sampling error (0.01) p - The largest possible proportion (0.50)

Computation : N = 142 Se = 0.01 V = 2.58 p = 0.50 Ss = 142* 2.58 + [ 0.012 ( 1 - 0.50 ) ] . 142 * 0.01 + [2.582 x 0.50( 1 – 0.50 ) ] = 366.36 + [ 0.0001 ( 0.5 )]. 1.42 + ( 6.6564 x 0.25 ) = 366.36 + 0.00005 1.42 + 1.6641

= 366.36005 3.0841 Ss = 118.79 or 119

The percentage of each stratum was also derived to distribute equally the sampling size among the population with regards to each stratum.

The formula for the percentage is :

Share = ( n / N ) * 100 where : Share - Percentage for each stratum N - Total population n - Sample units to be drawn

Computation : For 1st Year Level Students Share = ( 60/142) *100 = 0.42 * 100 Share = 42 %

For 2nd Year Level Students Share = ( 72/142) * 100 = 0.51 * 100 Share = 51% For Game enthusiasts/Software Programmers Share = ( 10/142) * 100 = 0.07 * 100 = 7%

The formula in getting the sample size of each stratum :
