Response To A Rose For Emily
The gothic short story “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner tells a story that revolves around a woman named Emily. This story takes us through different times in Miss Emily’s life, beginning with her death. This story is told different than others to give the reader a different perspective on Miss Emily, than everyone else in her town. Walking through Miss Emily’s life in and out of order, the vivid imagery of her skewed yearning heart, and the theme is a sad lonely story not too different from the rest of William Faulkner’s tales.
The first paragraph, will talk about how crucial the sequence of events were for the story.

Since Miss Emily comes from a very high social status, we can assume that her house is a really nice house. In that house, Miss Emily wanted more than anything to take a man and have a family in it, especially after the death of her father. Miss Emily wanted that man to be Homer Barron, but he did not want to be that man she wanted him to be. After taking Homer Barron’s life and making his tomb that house. It became almost like a prison for Miss Emily, keeping her stuck in time with her love that she killed. The “stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps” implicates how trapped in time Miss Emily was, and from the rotting of Homer Barron’s body, the house rotted as well.
Third paragraph, is about the dark sad theme of Miss Emily’s life .
Throughout Miss Emily’s life she has been let down, time and time again, all in the pursuit of love. Emily believes that love will make her happy That she needs to hold on to it no matter what so it can not be taken away like how her father drove away every possible love she could have had. After so long of trying for the same thing some people break on the inside, just like Miss Emily did the night she killed Homer
