Since Miss Emily comes from a very high social status, we can assume that her house is a really nice house. In that house, Miss Emily wanted more than anything to take a man and have a family in it, especially after the death of her father. Miss Emily wanted that man to be Homer Barron, but he did not want to be that man she wanted him to be. After taking Homer Barron’s life and making his tomb that house. It became almost like a prison for Miss Emily, keeping her stuck in time with her love that she killed. The “stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the gasoline pumps” implicates how trapped in time Miss Emily was, and from the rotting of Homer Barron’s body, the house rotted as well.
