II. Topic/ Purpose/ Theme Founding day festival: “Pasigarbo sa Sugbo”
Brief Discussion: Pasigarbo sa Sugbo is known as “Mother of all festivals in Cebu”. Every 6th day of August the city celebrates its founding anniversary in commemorates of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi who was appointed as governor of Cebu last 1569. This event contributes big significance to the city in social, political, economic and cultural preservation. It showcases the history, arts and culture, tourism, commerce, trade and industry and most especially it features the various products of Cebu such as rosquillos from Lilo-an and others. Merging all the popular festivals in Cebu in one single event is one of its uniqueness among any other festivals in our country.
