This essay will discuss factors that have contributed to the development of Extreme Sports in the UK, problems and issues that have affected the current demand and projections on future growth or decline
Nowadays, the world is in a continuous change and people tend to become more and more stressed due to all the activities they do, struggling with the daily routine. Some people try to fix it by changing the order of their daily habits, while, on the other side of the coin, others decide to change completely their life style. Working in the office every day seems boring and this is one of the main reasons why people decide to try new things like extreme sports.
Extreme sports also named action sports or adventure sports, are called this way due to their high level of danger and risk. It often involves high speeds, height and a lot of physical and mental preparations necessarily for success. In extreme sports the success is just a step away from failure, so, in this way the participants should be prepared to face any kind of issue in order to achieve their goal.
In the last few years, the term “extreme sports” has spread far and wide and it describes a large range of difficult activities, but exactly which sports are considered extreme is still debatable (see Appendix 1). However, there are some common characteristics to most extreme sports. They are mostly practiced by the ‘younger-than-average’ generation, and they tend to be more solitary than the traditional sports. The majority of the extreme sports are related on environmental uncontrollable variables such as weather and terrain, including wind, snow, water and mountains, so the natural aspect is one of the most important factors that influence this sector.
