It is essential for practitioners to be aware of children’s care and learning needs within a setting, there are numerous reasons for this. Primarily, it is to encourage ‘development’. A few children may develop and learn quicker than others but as practitioners it is somewhat our responsibility to make sure that all children’s needs are cared for despite what stage of development/growth they are at. This can be done, by carrying out observations; these will support us to distinguish the ‘exact’ learning needs of children. Observations show us evidently what stage of development each individual child is at.…

The middle class is defined not by a class of people in the middle of a social hierarchy, but rather as a façade of the so-called “American dream.” New York based author and historian, Stuart Ewen, in his essay “Chosen People,” published in “Literacies” by W.W. Norton & Company Inc. in 1997 addresses the topic of the middle class and argues that social status and class are characterized by patterns of consumerism. Americans today ask themselves what the true “American dream” consists of and many face a harsh reality that this dream is not an easy lifestyle to live. Ewen and other authors, Ira Steward and Alan Dawley, go into detail focusing upon the true middle class lifestyle and how this dream becomes an unattainable goal for more Americans every year.…

As a new nurse, I depend on research to help me in my practice. Nursing care is always improving with the help of research. With these changes, this can be a challenge for nurses to deliver care to patients. For this reason, I need to continue to expand my knowledge to keep up with current researches and technology. Without new knowledge, nurses cannot improve nursing care. As a nurse that works with a developmental disability population, I find that there are minimum nursing researches done to help this population.…

    2) In my work setting, we work within the care standards regulations by making sure the setting is a safe place to be in, and being hygienic, we have a sterilising unit which is used everyday, and also sterilise the plastic toys and make sure everything is cleaned well. We wear aprons and gloves whilst changing babies nappies, and to go around every morning and evening checking that nothings broken. We also give out daily sheets to give to the parent/carer at the end of the day, to tell them what they've had and what they've done during the day. The Special Needs Code of Practice is designed to help make effective decisions regarding children and young people with special educational needs, but this does not mean you can tell them exactly what to do in each individual case. A positive environment and routine teaches children how to behave with people in general, in my work setting the ages are 3-18 months, so the older babies might get an early understanding on how to be around people and how to be around one another. If the staff are positive and approachable, it could also help children to talk to staff more about any concerns they may have. Also it allows parents to talk to the staff more easily, and feel included and equal.…
