Darnay is “recalled to life” through Sydney Carton, because they look alike so they are easily mistaken easily. Darnay gets sentenced to treason, which will result in execution. Since Sydney will do anything for Lucie, Sydney gives his life for Darnay. This gives Darnay a second chance at life, so he goes to France with Lucie, little Lucie, and Dr. Manette. Because of this second chance, Darnay can now make an impact and love his family. While Darnay’s family is rich, he lives a lower, less-extravagant life. These characters start out with lives of no meaning, because they are either in prison, drunk, or have no reason for life. Through Lucie they are all inspired to make something of themselves, which makes these three characters grow to love and commend Lucie. Carton goes from being an alcoholic to being a prophetic hero. Dr. Manette transforms from imprisonment for eighteen years to having a part in his family and being open. Darnay goes from having an ugly past to having a second chance to love his family. These three characters definitely made something out of themselves for the better through Lucie. This book makes me realize that I should make my life important and remembered, and I want to live like Lucie does because she
