Review Of A Poem 'Blood On The Road'
That Midnight

Blurred headlights.
Blood on the road.
A drunken midnight, drizzled upon snow.

Didn’t see it coming.
No time to run.
Death—you were humming!
Towards me you spun!

No one to leap in front of me.
No one to steal the blow, as you took me with glee, enveloped me in shadow. Blurred headlights.
Hollow cries.
A drunken midnight, on which I die.

The Price of Blood was created in 1868 by Thomas Satterwhite Noble. When I first examined this painting, the first word that came to my mind was “eerie.” I could sense that some sort of conflict or debate was going on between the three men in the painting. The image definitely seemed gloomy because of the expression on the mens’ faces and the use of darker colors that Noble painted with. The image filled me with discomfort because of the way the three men are depicted; the men look as if they are in an argument or are trying to negotiate something.…

Every writer has a different process that eventually leads to a finished work. A magnitude of insight is gained when a reader is granted the privilege of comparing the early drafts of a work with the published version. Seeing the writing process allows a reader to imagine the thoughts and ideas as they came to the writer, see those ideas refined and edited, and lastly it leaves the reader with a better overall comprehension of the central message being conveyed by the writer. Cormac McCarthy's The Road and his draft The Grail are distinctly different, yet through similarities it is clear to see what ideas McCarthy thought of as essential to his story. In order to focus his introduction on the story of a father and son, rather than the post-apocalyptic world around them McCarthy omitted lengthy scene's describing the setting, but kept the lines about the pair heading south.…

“The Road Not Taken,” by Robert Forest (1994). ‘The Road Not Taken’ is more than a poem about someone trying to decide which road he’s going to take on a stroll to the woods. Its’s actually a poem about the journey of life. “Two roads diverged in a yellow road,” (p.1919) symbolize a person’s life. The roaring room quieted just in time to hear the last few words of the morning announcements “give blood and save a life”. I didn’t know it yet, but those words were going to change my life. Over the next couple of days the school worked hard to promote the upcoming blood drive by putting up many posters and constantly reminding us over the loudspeaker every possible chance they had. I hadn’t given the blood drive much thought initially, but about a week prior to the designated date chosen for the blood drive, I was approached during lunch in the school cafeteria and was asked if I would like to sign up to give blood. I let out a casual “yeah” and before I knew it I was putting my name on a half-full sign up sheet. I was then handed…
