In “Jay-Z: The Criminal Justice System Stalks Black People Like Meek Mill”, published by The New York Times, Jay-Z persuades his audience that a change in the criminal justice system should be called for. He effectively uses a logical flow of ideas, examples, good word choice, and literary devices to achieve his goal.…
How did you choose your topic: We chose our topic of Muhammad Ali because Ali was not just a fighter in the ring, he was a fighter for all African Americans, for all freedom fighters, for all the segregated and for every struggling Muslim. Ali took a stand being an African American Idol to all of his followers.…
In the movie brotherly love it displayed love, gang violence, differences in social class and much more. In this film it shows how individuals from the same neighborhood do not interact well with one other. The neighborhood are split up into two parts one is called the ‘top’ and the other is the ‘bottom’. The violence started between the Neighborhood because one of Chris cousin was shot. Chris is one of the main characters in the film. Chris is one of the rich boys from the top who many people are cool with. Chris cousin who was shot they were like brothers they hung out daily, did a lot together. The film includes a middle class family from the bottom that their older brother takes care of his younger brother and younger sister. The movie shows that family would never change up and, watch the ones that are very close they may be after something.…
I chose to talk about the reading by Canedy, Dana. “The Talk: After Ferguson.” In the reading we are introduced to the life of a colored person. She explains the struggle of having to even bring up the topics of police brutality and black people. She is in a battle with herself of knowing when the time is right to explain to her child that society is making the police and black man a problem.…
My final topic that I chose is The Harlem Renaissance. The Harlem Renaissance was the name given to the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem. In a phase of the Great Migration, half a million African Americans or so moved to the cities of the North. Most of them moved from the rural South in hopes of escaping poverty and oppression of Jim Crow Laws. White Landlords refused to rent to African-Americans, this led many newcomers to cluster in all-black neighborhoods. In the 1920's Harlem became the center of African-American Culture.…
This culture celebration consisted of many great people. One thing that stood out most was the art and element. It’s interesting to see the similarities of the art around this time. In my opinion, it shows the African Americans life and shows their beliefs and personal experiences…
Murder to Excellence, a song performed by Kanye West and Jay Z describes the life of the rappers. It reveals the struggles that not only they face, but their community as well. The song, as well as being a reflection on the rappers is also about the sufferings that have plagued the African American community, particularly in the city of Chicago (Metrolyrics, n.d). It rasies and highlights the issues that the community faces.…
One particular one that I noticed was a single sentence, “A girl said, they’re watching us”, this was an answer given by a student when asked if she was alright with surveillance cameras inside the school. That short fragmented sentence was appealing also to Pathos. This article was a bit melancholy in my opinion; it really showed me what some school enforcements might not be fair, but it also taught me to appreciate the little things. This was outstanding although instead you could add a couple more weasel words and persuasive text so that it can also appeal to the parents of the poor children.…
The Three sub topics that I choose were when children start school they have hard times with keeping up and passing their grade. The conditions that homeless children grow up in take a great toll on them physically and affect them every day. During the beginning of a Childs life they lack the proper nourishment needed to help them develop at the same pace as children their age.…
This question has been lingering around for many years and still to this day nobody has came to a simple conclusion.Hip Hop was brought to the people by Dj Kool Herc, when it all started Hip Hop was a just a way to connect with the community and build unity. He didn't start Hip Hop to start violence and make rappers disrespect woman or any other assumptions people make of Hip Hop.One cannot argue this question with just opinions, one must provide real facts and statistics.Opinion doesn't prove anything, it just gives on side of a story and how certain person feels.Even though a large amount of people say Hip Hop degrades society,in all reality it does’nt .Hip Hop enhances society.…
A lot of people have gone against rap artist for their negativity on their massages and they believe that rappers encourage others to become aggressive. But Rappers went on the defensive and their argument was that Gangsta rap was only a reflection of the hardships they faced out in the real world. The content of these songs had shootings, gang violence and substance abuse to women. It was taken in as an ugly picture. In my opinion, I do not like this gender of music, but their lyrics open the eyes to other to feel what they have experience.…
A potential topic for my iSearch is ghostwriting. I chose this topic because I extremely enjoy writing, and songwriting falls into that category. I would have just done it on writing songs, however I can’t sing that well, so this was the second best thing. I hope to find out how to write good songs, but meant for someone else to sing, not me. I will learn about my topic by reading books, watching videos on youtube, and hopefully find someone who ghostwrites professionally.…
I did my final project on the movie Get Out. I choose this movie, because when I saw it with my friends this past semester in the theater, it sparked discussion about the movie and race. In our discussion we realized that we each got something different out of the movie and saw different symbols hidden in it, which made it fun to puzzle together. It was really interesting to hear my black friends comments on the movie, since it was something that he experiences frequently.…
Hip-hop is actually a very wide subject, so in this presentation I’m mainly going to focus on the music genre hip-op.…
The film, Gangs of New York (2002), directed by Martin Scorsese, is loosely based on Herbert Asbury's work, “The Gangs of New York: an informal history of the underworld” (1927). The film tells the story of a fictional character, Amsterdam, who is trying to avenge his father, who was killed in battle by the film’s main antagonist, William Cutting, also known as Bill the Butcher. The story is set in New York City in the mid-nineteenth century, specifically, at the infamous Five Points, which now makes up the modern day Chinatown. There are several significant historical events at the backdrop of the film–the Great Famine, the draft riots, and the Civil War–all events that have drastically impacted and shaped America’s identity and culture. Few…
