Revised Act I: Scene V In The Capulet's Home
Revised Act I : Scene V In the Capulet’s home
Romeo, Benvolio, and Mercutio attend the Capulet Ball. Benvolio and Mercutio encourage Romeo to be brave and ask Rosaline to dance. When Rosaline refuses, Romeo is left momentarily heartbroken.

[Door opens. Mercutio, Benvolio, and Romeo enter the home.]

ROMEO: Oh, look at Rosaline
The most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Rosaline is like the sun and the moon. Both radiant during the day and at night. (Simile) Someday, I shall take her hand!

BENVOLIO: Cease your languish! O dramatic Romeo! My ears have listened to your pining for long enough. Romeo, you sound like a puppy that has been weaned too soon. [Mercutio laughs.]

MERCUTIO: Benvolio is right. I won’t be able to live another day of listening to you profess your love for a woman that doesn’t know you. If you want even a small chance at a future with her, you must talk to her.

They are a disgrace to this city! I can’t even fathom why the prince didn’t take them to the dungeon when they were clearly at fault. I’m sure that the Capulets tried to keep the peace best they could.
Thankfully I didn’t witness the fight, but my hatred for them runs so deep.
Now, before I create a scene greater than any shakespearean play, I will stop ranting and lower my voice. Dear friends, let’s enjoy this Montague free party.
[Rosaline leaves her friends to get dessert from the dessert table.]

MERCUTIO: Now is the time Romeo. Lady Rosaline is free from company.

ROMEO: Tis no time like now. I shall shoot my shot. Afterall, I’ll never no if I’ll miss my target if my arrow rests forever in my bow.

Benvolio tries to tell Romeo that there will be other women (the old “there are other fish in the sea” trick) but Romeo disagrees with him, saying that he loves only Rosaline. When Romeo and Benvolio go to the Capulet party, Romeo spots another beauty in a matter of seconds, and his immature heart is once again captured by some girl.…
