Macbeth
Almost all people have experienced the feeling of being over-confident at some point in their life. Being too confident can affect you and all the people around you. It is easy to lose sight of yourself and not realize how poor your attitude is. This is exactly what happened to the main character in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Macbeth was overcome with too much confidence and ambition that led him to tragedy. Macbeth had many flaws that eventually led to his downfall.
Macbeth showed many of his flaws throughout this play. His first flaw is his blinding ambition for power. At the beginning of the play Macbeth showed his nobility and bravery when he conquers a captain in battle. In result of his success, Duncan, the king of Scotland, rewards Macbeth with the title of Thane of Cawdor. Afterwards, Macbeth is greeted by the three witches, the Weird sisters, who are planning to set Macbeth up for failure. Even though they know his real future, they plan to lie to him so he does things to make their predictions really happen. The witches tell Macbeth that he will soon become king of Scotland. Once they show him his future, Macbeth becomes obsessed with the idea of having power. When he tells his wife, Lady Macbeth, about the news we learn that Macbeth lets his wife control him. Lady Macbeth describes her husband as “… too full o’ th’ milk of human kindness / To catch the nearest way.” (1.5. 17-18). Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth not to be a coward and she comes up with a master plan on how to kill Duncan, and Macbeth follows through and murders him. If Macbeth would have done what he knew was right and not what others told him to do, he would have never done these tragic things that led to his downfall.
Throughout this play we see how corruptive Macbeth is by displaying violence and murder to seize power. His life becomes darkened and starts to fall apart when he is overcome with guilt and paranoia. His

At the start of the play Macbeth is brave and loyal and displays many of the attributes of a great king. However after conversing with the three witches his state of mind goes on a downward spiral eventually ending in his demise. His thirst for power and wealth cause him to act foolishly and with haste rather than waiting to see if the witches’ predictions come true. It is clear from Macbeths reaction to King Duncan telling Malcom that he will be Prince of Cumberland that Macbeths desires have already started to take a toll on his mind ‘That is a step on which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, For in my way it lies.’ (I. IV. 48). This clearly shows that ambition is taking away Macbeths rational thoughts and he is choosing to act without thought towards the consequences and is only focused on his goal of becoming…

Through the Start of the play, Shakespeare explores how a discreet suggestion to a person with ambition, corrupts their ability to follow their better judgment. The "brave, noble, thane' Macbeth is suggested by the "foul and fair" witches that "he shalt be Thane of Cawdor", and "shalt be the King". It is here that Macbeth's ambition and desire to be king is awakened. Macbeth continuously shows interest in the 'evil' witches although Banquo quotes "the instruments of darkness tell us truths, to betray us in deepest consequence". This shows Macbeth's flaw of not being able to act with the better thinking provided by his best friend. Lady Macbeth teases and tempts Macbeth to kill the king, but Shakespeare at this point implements Macbeth's intelligence through his soliloquy. Macbeth understands the "deep damnation" bought upon the king's death, the "consequences' that will "trammel upon" him and also he realizes that it is just his "vaulting ambition" embarking on the "horrid deed". Although Macbeth swore to "proceed no further in this business", Lady Macbeth's judicious "you are not a man" makes Macbeth "dare do all". This is Macbeth's flaw repeated. Macbeth's first flaw that Shakespeare introduces the audience to is the inability to act according to his moral judgment. This flaw leads onto more flaws until his tragic death.…

It is evident from the beginning that Macbeth’s fatal flaw is ambition. When the witches tell him that he is going to be king, his mind immediately begins to ponder on the possibilities of killing Duncan, “My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical, shakes so my single state of man…” His ambition is unsettling because it sets of the sequence of events throughout the play that lead to his downfall. Clearly Lady Macbeth is the driving force behind Macbeth’s ambition, because she forces him to overcome his guilt by insulting him, “And live a coward in thine own esteem, letting I dare not wait upon I would, Like the poor cat I’th’adage?” However once his ambition takes over him, it spirals out of control, leading to more murders to cover up all his wrongdoings, and leads him to being tormented by apparitions and guilt. In the end he doesn’t get the chance to enjoy the “fruits of his labour” and is beheaded by McDuff.…
