First, what are the push factors that made the Chinese gold miner wanted to leave their country?The most important factor was economic hardship due to the growing British dominance over China, they were ruled by the British, they felt unsafe and disappointed with their country. And at that time the living condition was really bad: crime rate rise, streets are dirty, using opium, goods price were very high, the poor's everywhere and they have no rights against the British.
Second, why do they wanted to go to New Zealand? Because there was gold, most of the Chinese miner came here, hoped to return to China as rich men and to be honored for returning that way. And they were escaping poverty in China as well, they came here to for a better life and job, wanted their children to grow up with good education.
