In the artifacts shown, the Club has verbally and publicly celebrated the people that make the organization great. As part of a book project, I read "The Red Badge of Courage." It is about a soldier named Henry who wants to earn his mark as a soldier. Initially he strays away from the battlefield because he is afraid of death and wants to live among the living and not the dead. Later, he becomes desperate to get shot and earn his "Red Badge of Courage" to prove to the other soldier that he is not only a man but a true hero. The purpose of this project was to write a journal entry for a series of chapters and note rhetorical strategies used by the author. A author's purpose is then written in MLA format to compare the author to the book and learn more about the author in general. At the end of the book, we were to conduct a presentation about the book and…

Chapter 4, we learned the various aspects of an audience, when preparing a written or electrical document. How did I consider my audience needs and interests as I developed the presentation about Great Calls marketing strategy? I put myself in their shoes and considered the expectations that a manager of a large cellular company would expect. I recognized their time is valuable and I would need to be quick and direct. I also thought that I would have to put together a presentation that was professional and eye catching and brought valuable information to helping them direct the company to a new solution to increase customer attention. Who was my audience? The people I am presenting to are five managers of Genuine Cellular, who I assume are…

There are seven common mistakes people make when preforming job-searches. The first mistake people make is to tell a potential employer you left your last position of employment due to personal differences with you and your boss. The next mistake someone makes is not bragging about what you can do and why this company needs you as an employee. Another common mistake is focusing on your personal needs rather than the needs of your potential employer. Yet another mistake job-searchers make is speaking too fast when leaving a voicemail. The next mistake is not making sure that you and your potential employer are compatible. Another important mistake is to make…

In the introduction to Martin Luther King's "Why We Can't Wait", he uses stylistic, narrative and persuasive devices to capture the reader's attention. The passage roughly describes the life for an African-American back in the 1960s. If you sit back and ponder upon that idea, the question "Why?" might come to mind. Why? What was King's reason to write this passage and how did he want to get it across to his audience? Well, let's analyze this through football knowledge.…

Advertising companies constantly struggle with ways in which to differentiate themselves. “The more messages they create the more they have to create to reach us; it has led us to a vicious circle of clutter”. Companies strive to “break through the clutter”, which in turn just creates more of a mess. Companies use tactics such as guerilla marketing, an alternative plan to grab consumer’s attention. This method takes an “in your face” approach, something out of the ordinary. In “The Persuaders”, Frontline discusses such techniques and companies’ approach to influence consumers.…

I don’t really want to write an essay this is more like an accumulation. However, if I were to have a thesis it would be something like: In chapter seven of The Awakening, Kate Chopin uses several subtextual techniques such as parallels, callbacks, and symbolism, to covertly convey an aspect of Edna’s sexuality that is, as the writer understands it, homosexual. By using these literary techniques in tandem with the strongly written friendship between Edna and Adele, Edna’s homosexuality can be unearthed from the subtext. (or something like that)…

In his essay, When We Can’t Wait on Truth: The Nature of Rhetoric in the Rhetoric of Science, Nathan Crick explores the question, what is the relationship between rhetoric and truth? Crick’s purpose is to inform all readers that rhetoric has a crucial validating role in science. The author references Alan Gross’s published work, The Rhetoric of Science, in which he contributed to the initiation of a controversy concerning the place of rhetoric in science studies, while also arguing for the continued significance of the classical rhetorical tradition. Gross’s main idea of the text was “rhetorically, the creation of knowledge is a task beginning with self-persuasion and ending with the persuasion of others” (Gross, 1996, 3). However, in…

Never willing to accept defeat before her husband does, Linda Loman deals with her family on a daily basis. She has a husband, Willy who is a salesman searching to achieve the American dream both for himself and his sons, whom he quarrels with as much as he loves them. But Willy is getting old, and fear of his yet to be accomplished goals seem to speak to Linda. Some critics claim that Linda is "above self-pity" and that "her confidence in him is unshaken". Others complain that she "offers more encouragement than understanding". The reason for all the opposing ideas is because Arthur Miller effectively leads the readers to contradict our first impression of Linda. In the play "Death of a Salesman", the author Arthur Miller transforms Linda Loman from a frightened but encouraging victim to a manipulative villain who is hindering Willy's American dream.…

Lewis further argues that he will not wait and be patient like his forefathers before him and all the brothers that he stands with at the moment, he wants to be free, and he wants his people to be free now, a saying that does not go unheard by all the audience that is listening to him. Lewis illustrates to the audience once more, “We are tired. We are tired of being beaten by policemen. We are tired of seeing our people locked up in jail over and over again.”(para 7) In summary, Lewis is saying that he is worked up as well as all the African Americans of being treated as second-class citizens, that they are treated as animals, caged up so the world won’t see their malcontent. Lewis is again repeating his rhetorical technique of anaphora, in which he puts to good use as he repeats being tired time and time again of seeing people of color locked up and in jail for no particularly good reason, even if they didn’t commit a…
