Rhetorical Analysis Of Hillary's Speech

A major premise that Hillary speaks about in her speech is that debt is negatively affecting Americans. She incorporates both statistical analysis and solid evidence to support her claim. She uses the example of financial inequality in this country to change her audience’s mood; by first making them upset about their countries current state and then making them feel relieved when she explains that she will fix it. One of Hillary’s other major claims is that education is important and in order to change the audience’s mind she must go up against the fact that not everyone believes college is necessary. Hillary uses a statistic to change the values of this group in her speech. “Some people question, ‘Well, you know, is post-secondary education
really a good investment?’ And the fact is, it still is. In fact, somebody with a four-year degree will, on average, make a half-a-million dollars more than somebody who didn’t go on after high school.” She also explains the importance of education by using logic for her reasoning. She states that Americans need to be able to afford education so that they can perform the jobs necessary to keep our country running. Without educated citizens we will no longer be able to discover, advance, or perform anything within our career fields. She demonstrates how education is advantageous to the citizens and why America should want to do act against the unfair system. Then once she changes the audiences mind she must change their willingness to act. Hillary makes the audience passionate about voting for her when she communicates her dedication for changing the circumstances and mentions some of the people with an opposite goal in mind. She uses Governor Walker of Wisconsin as a compelling reason to act and explains how he has been working against the average college student by making is harder for them to obtain scholarships and rejecting the idea to be able to deduct loans on your tax return. Hillary gives several major claims in her speech about what is happening and what she can do about it. Her claims are truthful, to the point, and are backed up with logical evidence.
