Unfortunately Steve Gleason revealed that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in 2011. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as ALS, is a terminal debilitating disease that impacts the nervous system weakening and prohibiting typical physical function. However Gleason does not allow this disease to control how he lives his life. He has lead a life that inspires others; he refuses to stop looking for a cure, views everyday, every minute, as a gift, and he treats it as such. The commercial is titled “Empowering.” This word has a very positive diction and connotation and most would agree that this commercial is named appropriately. While it may be making its product look good, it is also showing its audience that there are enumerable benefits that come with technological advancements. In addition, it could be addressing any counterarguments that people who are hesitant about the development of something that could get out of hand. However by using these examples of children and people who benefit from these achievements, no one in the right mind would deny them the opportunity to walk, talk, see, or hear that would be unforgivable and unsympathetic. Therefore it is clear to see that this commercial has been used to inspire and encourage the general public to help others and find a way to make this world a better place. From a more competitive perspective, Microsoft, the producer of the commercial, is trying to show the world the undiscovered world of technology and all the room for improvement. Its goal is to leave the ideology in their audience’s head that these dreamlike improvements are possibilities with their technology; in addition, it makes it seem that Microsoft is the “trend-setter” for the advancement of
