Choose Your Words Wisely! Choose your words wisely! This is a phrase that is quite true about politics. Politicians choose their words wisely because one wrong word can cause them to get criticized and they can lose everything. Language or word choice are big parts of politics. Every situation comes with new forms of language. When a tragic event happens, you see on the news a politician from that area. The politician’s language choice must be chosen wisely before he or she speaks before the community. A tragedy is an event that causes harm to a person or group of people. People are hurting. In the second sentence of his transcript President Obama says that Democrats and responsible Republicans came together to get the government back up on its feet. Even though President Obama didn’t fully come out and say it, but he showed a since of hatefulness towards the Republican Party. He only gives the responsibility of the shutdown being ended to the Democrats and responsible Republicans. Further on in his speech he brings in the sweet talk of politics. He talks about how there are no winners in this kind of situation and that the shutdown had put unnecessary damage on our economy. He goes on to throw another low blow toward the people who pushed for the shutdown, saying “some members who pushed for the shutdown say they were doing it to save the American economy. But nothing has done more to undermine our economy these past three years than the kind of tactics that create these manufactured crises.” Throughout the rest of his speech President Obama uses educated language to inform the American People about what all went on during the government shutdown, but he continued to take shots at the party that was fight against him. Senator Ted Cruz was the one leading the fight against President Obama. He gave a speech on September 24, 2013 about Obamacare. Senator Cruz spoke with arrogance and disrespect. He uses his words to shaped President Obama as a villain. His word choice was luring and partly pettish. He played it like he was a victim just like the rest of us, Americans. Every word he spoke was chosen to make President Obama to be the true bad guy. The choice of language used by both President Obama and Senator Cruz was chosen carful to get as many people on their side by using facts but also by taking low blows at each other.
