Rhetorical Analysis Reflection
My work on Rhetorical Analysis shows my development of the skill recognizing rhetorical aspects in a text. My comfort level with recognizing rhetorical aspects in a text before the assignment was super low due to I am not used to looking closely at the recognizing rhetorical aspects in a text but instead the content of the text. That was clearly shown with the change in direction of my paper from the first draft to my second draft. I moved from looking at the content of the text to recognizing rhetorical aspects in the text. “With the adaptation of analepsis in a non-fiction/memoirs, Sestero wanted to show the readers that you don’t have to follow what is known to be the traditional way of doing things.” I look closely at the text and found out that Sestero is using analepsis to communicate a message to the reader. While in my first draft, I look at how Tommy and Sestero are both inspire by James Dean which is not a rhetorical aspect in the text. The skill totally changes my way of looking at text. Now when I look at a text, I see the rhetorical choices that the author makes to express their message to the audience. …show more content…
I have missed a few due dates but I always make up for them so I won’t miss the chance to improve my skill on rhetorical analysis. I have visited office hours twice. I mainly work on the Rhetorical Analysis. I have learned a lot from both sessions. The first time I brought my first draft with me and I was totally unsure about the direction of my paper. However, after the visit, I have a very clear direction that what I should look for and what I should work on. It helped a lot and I have more confident on the topic that I chose. Overall, my goals in this class is to improve my writing skill and my tendency to meet the benchmarks has allowed me to learned new writing skills to help me in achieving my goal of improving my writing

The main focus Haas and Flower have throughout the article is the fact that students are staying at the “mediocre” level while reading, instead of breaking down the text and actually analyzing what the author(s) were trying to say. Haas and Flower want students to get use to using the rhetorical strategy, since it will help students better understand the text they read especially as they continue on with higher education…

In Johann Hari’s article “You are being lied to about pirates” (published Monday January 5, 2009 by the Independent) he uncovers for his audience/readers the truth behind piracy and how it is reflected in the ways that the government “tries” to inform the public. The article shows that his audience is the people he recognizes to be the real villains in destroying the pirate “organization” as well as the uneducated readers on the topic that are looking to grasp a new understanding of pirates and where it all started. Johann Hari is trying to prove to us that there is definitely more than one side to these Somali pirates, but people just have to be willing to listen to see the truth behind their story.…

In the late 1940’s through the late 1950’s McCarthyism was a wide spread epidemic here in America. The government had a very intense suspicion that there were influences of communism on our soil. Many were accused and prosecuted for “un-American activities” throughout the states. The FBI had no grounds or evidence to stand on when accusing these people. The Salem witch trials in The Crucible were very similar to these situations. Witten by Arthur Miller The Crucible was Miller’s way of protesting and speaking out against these trials while trying not to draw any attention to him. He uses many rhetorical devices to help better his message as it if brought forth to the reader. In South Central, Los Angeles, there is a food epidemic taking place among the population. For miles and miles, the only easily attainable food source is fast food; causing the overconsumption of un-nutritious, greasy, and fattening food. This is the problem brought to the public’s attention by speaker Ron Finley in his Ted Talks speech, “A Guerilla Gardener in South Central L.A.” Finley explains how everywhere he looks in his native South Central, all he sees are fast food chains and Dialysis clinics opened due to the lack of nutritious food. Finley views the lack of a healthy food source as a serious problem, and brings up his point; there are miles of vacant lots throughout Los Angeles, all of which could be used for the cultivation of healthy fruits and vegetables to better the urban community’s diet and health.…

Well-known Sci-fi writer, Ray Bradbury, in his novel, Fahrenheit 451, illustrates that relationships reflect who individuals are and who they want to be. Bradbury’s purpose is to promote the idea that a person should have the courage to listen to their own beliefs and thoughts of happiness rather than to blend in with society. He adopts a disoriented and poetic tone in order to appeal to similar feelings and experiences on a non-realistic scale in his young adult readers.…

Sometimes life gets tough and gives us obstacles and challenges just to see how we overcome them. It only takes one mistake for someone’s life to be turned upside down. Watching people go through hardships and life challenges helps us get on the right path and succeed. The book The Other Wes Moore written by Wes Moore himself, is based on real life challenges that two boys ironically with the same name and hometown were faced with and how their decisions on overcoming them lead them to two completely different places. One living free and being able to experience things and the other living unfortunately behind bars. Wes Moore uses the rhetorical appeals ethos, logos, and pathos to engage the readers attention on how two boys with so many similarities can grow up and live two completely opposite lives.…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…
