When I was writing my first draft of my RA paper, I had a general idea of what my paper was going to be on because of the prompt: comparing two tales on the aspect of gender. However, when I wrote up a rhetorical triangle for both tales, I was able to see the contrast on message, purpose, audience, etc. For example, I realized there were two purposes that can be conveyed. I could focus on the contrast between the two tales by using gender as evidence or on the feminist perception by using the tales as evidence. Later on, I decided to go with the latter because the purpose was more narrow as I can focus on the double standards that women experience and address many aspects such as employment opportunities and freedom. Another example would be the audience that each tale was targeted at as one tale was written for adults while the other one was written for children. I was also able to address this contrast by implementing Robert Darnton’s critic in assessing the brutality faced by women and men.
