The wealth of Aline
Aline from Suzanne Jacob's " Rich for one day " is rich, because she has a lot of time, she can do everything that she wants, and she is really happy. First of all, She has enough time." She decided to open her eyes" (Suzanne 257). It means that she can decide to wake up or continue sleeping. She is very different to others people. When they wake up, they just do it and do not think about it but Aline is opposite. She spends her time almost in her room on sleeping and relaxing. Moreover, Aline can afford the things she wants. " She had eight dollars, a fortune; she could allow herself thousands of things" (Suzanne 257). Eight dollar is a small amount of money for a person, but it is enough for Aline. She lets her excitement out at the thought of being rich that day " She could go to the …show more content…
movies and have popcorn and coke" (Suzanne 257) and when Lucien invites a job to her but "she feel too rich today to answer" (Suzanne 257).
Finally, Aline is pretty happy. The concept of happiness is so distinct from Aline, with her the happiness is defined as the simple things in life. At a certain point in the story on her way to the Cinema, as she is strolling down the cool and dark road, Aline go to her favorite bookshop, where the "books were a great many little radiators" and "Aline's hands were warm and she felt good"(Suzanne 258). Once more, the author is associating the things that make Aline happy to the warmth that she feels from the inside that when she is warm, she feels "loved and fulfilled"(Suzanne 259). Aline also keeps herself happy by encircling herself with darkness since she doesn't like the light anymore. This picture of obscurity can clarify some
portion of Aline's happiness. Maybe Aline uses the darkness to hide her personality because she thinks if the less she knows, the happier she is. In conclusion, Aline is rich because she has plenty of free time to spend on doing what she likes and wants to do, able to have the thing she loves and enjoys her life.
