Jonathan Martin. Richie Incognito was labeling Jonathan Martin and threatened to kill Jonathan

Martin speaks, thats the culture inside football locker. “I’m not a racist, and those closest to me know that, because I used the word all the time on Jonathan in jokes” (Richie Incognito).
The language they used to talk to each other was little foul because of the football culture that gets caught up. “It’s just a big misunderstanding, maybe because Jonathan and me talk so different” (Richie Incognito). Richie also said that he never was trying to hurt jonathan martin’s feelings and thinks Jonathan understands it.
Peck would describe this as problem as labeling and stereotyping. Labeling is “Categorizing people and thinking in a simpleminded manner, then making judgments on the basis of the assumptions we attach to these categories” (Peck 7). Richie Incognito was labeling
and making fun of Jonathan Martin by saying n-word. Richie knew he was joking to martin but rest of the world saw it as a racial slur.”It’s something that to the outside world doesn’t seem right, but to my guys, to my teammates, the jokes and pranks and fights were normal inside our locker room”. (Richie Incognito). Richie labeled jonathan martin as a rookie and beginner to NFL and made fun of him about the practice tweet Jonathan tweeted and also by calling him words that are rude and seen as racial
slur. Stereotyping can also be seen in this problem between two NFL players. “Stereotyping typically involves labeling categorizing people and thinking in a simpleminded manner, then making judgments on the basis of the assumptions we attach to these categories” (Peck 7). Richie Incognito is more senior player than rookie Jonathan Martin and because of that he thought he’s better than Jonathan and thats example of thinking in simpleminded manner. Incognito judged Jonathan Martin based on his actions and attitudes as a rookie. He crossed his line when he called Jonathan n-word which is like being racist to him.
