Rick Riordan Essay

Rick Riordan is an American author of over twenty novels for young readers. He has received many awards for his works, including a two-time Mark Twain Award, and the Children's Choice Books Awards for Author of the Year in 2011. He is also a #1 New York Times bestselling author. I chose to write about Rick Riordan because I love his books, especially his Percy Jackson series. This story tell of a boy named Percy Jackson who is the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, and his adventures. Rick Riordan’s books are very interesting and have taught me a lot about Greek mythology, which is another reason as to why I chose to write about him and his works.

Some believe that it’s because he’s not religious, or maybe he’s an atheist, and he doesn’t want to stir any controversy with Christians over his books. His books are based in various ancient mythologies, so it’s hard to say, but those theories are purely speculation. After writing for so long, Rick has received various awards. Some of these include: Mark Twain Award for “The Lightning Thief” and “The Sea of Monsters”, Rebecca Caudill Award for “The Lightning Thief”, School Library Journal’s Best Book for “The Red Pyramid”, Children’s Choice Book Awards: Author of the Year, and the Children’s Choice Book Awards: Fifth Grade to Sixth Grade Book of the Year for “The Red Pyramid”. He has received many more which have contributed to the fame and success he has today. Rick Riordan is a highly awarded, New York Times best selling, American author. He currently resides in San Antonio with his wife and their two sons. He is author to five series which include Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, The 39 Clues Series, Tres Navarre Series and The Kane Chronicles.
