First and foremost, Rick Riordan created fictional books. He wrote books for all ages, not just children, but adults too. When he originally started writing, he wrote an entire series called "Tres Navarre" for adults. It was made up of a bunch of mystery novels. After he was done with that he went to making novels for children. His first series for children was Percy Jackson. That entire series was about a 13 year-old teenager named Percy, who was a demigod, who goes on adventures to save something. Lots of kids liked those books.
