Rick Yancey's The 5th Wave
I read the book, “The 5th Wave,” written by Rick Yancey. It was published May 7th, 2013. I personally enjoyed the book. Before I read the book, I saw the trailer for the movie coming out and the main character is my bae. I’m excited for the release of the movie. The trailer was pretty hyped, it really caught my attention with all the action. During reading, I enjoyed how there was so much suspense after each chapter, it kept making me go on to the next one. For example, a chapter ended with Cassie bleeding out under a Buick; a silencer was waiting for her to make her move. It was a really intense moment. Some reviews I read thought the first 100 pages were boring. They concluded that because of the flashbacks to Cassie’s life before the invasion, …show more content…
They thought the book was really good but not enough to take the top spot. Just like me, Avery likes how Rick Yancey writes the “twisty turns”; they literally cause out loud gasping. He/She thought the first 100 pages were a drag. I understand this because it was before all the conflict and telling how Cassie lived her life before the infiltration. Personally, I enjoyed the introduction to the situation. I read another review with the title, “It's the alien apocalypse! A great read!” The author is stated as simply Steph. This review was posted on July 15th, 2014. She thought it was certainly a good book. She enjoyed how the story was being told by multiple P.O.V.’s because it created a moment where it was a perfect, heart wrenching episode of tension. I completely agree with her because I know exactly what moment she is talking about. Rick Yancey is very good at building up tension. Steph feels that Cassie doesn’t have much character growth. She points out how the only time you see her growth is when there was flashbacks. They show how she was a shy school girl and became a cautious survivor. She’s right; Cassie in real time is the same person until the end. Although, she did pick up some skills from Evan and that made her stronger. Personally, I don’t mind the lack of character

I liked this book mainly because of how different it was compared to my lifestyle and how entertaining it was. Nikki turner didn’t really sugar coat much so I felt I was watching a movie and saw it for what it truly was. Like anyone’s guilty pleasure we all like reality television and it kind of reminded me of just that with fights and drama. The books good points that were how certain events that happen in one’s life good or bad really do shape a person into who they become. Teaching me to not be ashamed of what happens and to only use that circumstance as a motivation of some kind. For anyone that is interested in a gritty, suspenseful, and eye bulging book that keeps you wondering what’s next I would definably recommend this book to that someone willing to take a…

Wallace, Davis Foster." This is Water", Kenyon College Commencement Speech, 2005. The basic information that has been taken out of this speech is, what it really means to think, and learning how to exercise some control on what you think. It is easy to live off our set default rather than look differently at life. Setting a new dedication on how to see life and how you construct meaning from experience. At the beginning, Wallace suggests that as hard we try, we cannot escape from the truths we hold as humans. Throughout the text, it creating a sense of emotion when referring of birth to death, because humans, experience any set of emotion at any state of mind. Mark Bradford was the artist that I took a look at. His creativity was wonderful abstract, catching my eye piece after piece. The particular artwork that I looked at was his “When We Ride” created in 2006. The media is a mix, which was created into a collage on canvas. The canvas was at its large of 46 3/8 x 62 ¼ inches. This piece of artwork is located in the city of art itself; Los Angeles, California. I believe this canvas collage tells an untold story through contrast and rhythm, light and color, and texture.…

I think this book was one of the best books I have read. It’s funny, has action, and is serious at moments. It was written really well and kept me entertained the whole time reading it. The only thing I would change is at the end of the book it ends to fast and doesn’t really explain everything I was thinking of. Other than that it was an awesome book.…

One reason to read this book is how fast emotions change. On one page the characters are laughing the next they are grieving over a family member who is a victim of a deadly plague that will take life. On one page the main character is rampaging and destroying technology the next she is trying to save her sister's life. If you like books with fast mood changes that this is the book for you. Now the way that the story built around her disappearing into the night it made it feel as if she were to be found dead, which invoked a feeling of suspicion and added tension. When we learn that she has just kind of gone mad by adorning a necklace of human tongues and said she had found herself within the forests of Vietnam. The final event that actually affected me had to definity been the death of Kiowa, probably my favorite character within this novelization. We learn through Norman Bowker, who by the way blames himself for his death, that Kiowa had died since he could not save him from the shit field on the Song Tra Bong. In “Notes” we learn that Norman Bowker is filled with guilt that he could not save his dear friend Kiowa, who also was loved by the rest of Alpha Company. Mitchell Sanders even blames Jimmy Cross for setting up camp on a terrible position and is the reason Kiowa’s dead. Even Azar stops being a total jerk when he finally sees the dead body of Kiowa, Kiowa’s death was an important one for the characters of the novel and the readers of the novel. Overall I actually really enjoyed this book, it peaked my interest unlike most war…
