cracks, baseboards, under the sinks and along corners. The following are ways to aid in your endeavor to rid of these pests.
Withhold food and water.
Depending on their size and the temperatures outside, roaches can make it without food for close to a month but not more than a week without water. By fixing all water licks within your house, you deny them the much needed water and they are more interested in the gel- based baits you have set. Denying them food involves:
Cleaning your house thoroughly, cleaning dishes promptly after use and putting food away after meals.
Keeping food containers sealed and not leaving food exposed for long stretches of time.
Mopping the floors regularly to get rid of any cramps as well as any sticky spots.
Taking trash out more often and ensuring you bins have lids.
Using roach baits.
You can buy roach baits at the local hardware to deal with your roach problem. They come in child-proof containers and can be applied as a gel. They contain a poison mixed with foods that attract them and kill the roaches slowly. You should place the bait in locations where the roaches are bound to come into contact with it. This could be near their nest, corners, under the sinks or behind the fridge. The roaches feed on the bait and even maybe carry some back to the nest. When they excrete, other roaches get in contact with it as well and die.
Most store baits contain Fipronil. 05% or Hyddranethylnon 2% and when ingested, take about two weeks for the first generation to die. However, new eggs are hatched just as fast and future applications are needed to rid of the …show more content…
cockroaches.
You can also make homemade baits to save on the cost you would have otherwise inquired.
You will need to mix one part powdered Boric acid, one part wheat flour and one part powdered white sugar. You can also mix one part Boric acid, two parts flour and one part cocoa. The sugar, flour and cocoa act to attract the roaches and the Boric acid kills them. Barox can also be used as a replacement for Boric acid. Sprinkle the powder under the stove, behind the sink and any other likely area where the roaches have set up camp. Boric is less toxic to humans or pets and as such quite safe for use. The mixture however cakes up and measures should be taken to protect the surfaces. You should expect a cycle or reemergence and disappearing for about two weeks before complete
eradication.
Use of insecticides
A simple solution of essentials easily available at home can be the solution you have been seeking for your roach problem. By making a solution of the regular bathing or washing soap and splashing/ spaying or just throwing it on the roach, you could kill it. Two or three drops on its head, lower abdomen or belly could slow it down and subsequently kill it. The soap water works by forming a thin layer over the roaches breathing pores resulting in its suffocation. You are advised to throw it away immediately as it could recover when the solution dries up.
You could also buy an insecticide from the local hardware store making sure it is labeled for use against roaches. It should contain Cyfluthrin or any other active ingredient that kills cockroaches. Spray their hiding places as well as possible points of entry into the house. You should keep children and pets away as you spray and follow the safety guidelines as stipulated. If you are using baits as well do not spray too close to it as this could keep the roaches away from it.
You could also apply liquid concentrates as a last resort or with extreme infestation. By diluting this deterrent chemical and spraying, mopping or wiping surface with it, all roaches that walk past it are immediately killed. Caution should be taken when using this poison as it kills even the non- target organisms. It however prevents against re-infestation.
Use professional grade pesticide
For worse infections, you could order pesticides containing Cypermethrin like Cy-Kick Cs that kills the live bugs and also has a residual effect for an extent of three months. Professional baits, glue traps and sprays are found to be more effective than products bought locally.
Using traps
You could buy traps at the local convenience stores. They lure the roaches in and they are unable to get out. By placing bait like coffee and a little water, the roaches smell the food and are subsequently trapped. In drier areas, water is bait enough. This is effective for the adult population but not effective for the long term as the nest remains unaffected.
A simple home DIY with water bottles can also be used as a trap for the cockroaches.
Prevention against future reinfection
Frequent fumigation could prevent the roaches from making a home in your home. Less inexpensive methods would be sealing all cracks in the exterior and interior of you house therefore sealing their breeding grounds. Moving waste in your backyard further from your house ensures that when the conditions outdoors are not conducive, they do not make their way into your house. General cleanliness could also go a long way in ridding yourself of these unwanted guests in the future.
