While lying on the grass in the front yard, I imagined the exciting night ahead. Before long, Taylor and his girlfriend, Kara, arrived and picked me up. Almost immediately, I stood up and sauntered in my Duke sweatshirt and basketball shorts over to their car. I jumped into the backseat. Immediately, I was assaulted with the strong smell of perfume that had been sprayed inside the car because it belonged to Kara. Tonight instead of driving, she decided to let Taylor drive illegally without a license. As we drove off to Erik’s house, the rendezvous for tonight’s “Goatman” adventure, we saw a police officer had just pulled a car over. As we drove by, we breathe easier and relaxed because we didn’t see any more cops on the way.…

Rifleman Dodd was an interesting book that’s telling a story of a soldier that gets separated from his fellow brothers and sisters during a battle in the 1800’s. This book describes everything about Matthew Dodd and the things he went through to return back to the fight. While on this journey, Dodd ran into several problems. I’d say the big challenges that he faced were starvation, fatigue and a Portuguese boy that he met along the way. With the challenge of starvation being in a battle is a very serious problem because it’s a big effect on how he could react once in the face of danger. Having a much disciplined diet on his journey helped to obtain the energy he needed to stay in the fight.…

    Goal Statement

My professional goal is to obtain Walden’s Master’s degree in mental health counseling with a specialization in trauma and crisis and become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I would especially like to work with soldiers who have been affected by frequent deployments and their families to help them overcome their personal and social problems that have, without a doubt, strong negative influences on their lives. Throughout my life I have always been drawn to opportunities that helped others lead a healthier and happier life. As a military spouse I have witnessed the need the military community has for qualified mental health professionals and decided to pursue the counseling profession to give back to the community that has provided my family with so much. My own personal experiences as a military spouse have helped me become quite familiar with the lifestyle and many challenges members of the military and their families face. I feel my own experiences would put me in the unique position to truly understand the conflicts of my clients, which will in turn increase credibility with my clients, and should greatly contribute to a good client-therapist relationship. My background allows for a close bond with the community I would like to work with. I feel I could make a significant difference in military families’ lives with the aid of a degree in mental health counseling.…

Rifleman Dodd was the “Commandant's Choice” for 1996 and it supported the year's theme of “commitment.” It followed the struggles of Dodd, a rifleman in the British Ninety-Fifth, as he tried to return to his regiment when he was cut off by the French. The setting was the peninsular campaign during the Napoleonic War. The combatants were the French who “would hang or shoot—if they did not torture—any one they caught who was not a Frenchman,” the British who only make appearances at the beginning and end of the book, and the Portuguese forces and the peasant guerrillas Dodd organized.…

Dodd, a rifleman in the Ninety-Fifth Foot known as the Rifle Brigade, is cut off from the rest of the British army as the French advance on the country of Portuguese. This is back in the time when men fought with muskets and horses, where there are no phones or cars and where honor and faith is what mattered to any soldier in the battlefield. As Dodd has no choice but to sneak around the country trying to make his way back to his beloved unit to continue the fight he runs into many different people that help alter the path that he takes throughout the book. He will learn that sometimes a common enemy is all that someone needs to work with another person no matter the language barrier. As he journeys to rejoin his unit in the Lines he makes new friends and allies that help him discover stuff about him that he never thought he had or would use. His experience as a soldier for so many years allow him to lead people that want nothing more than their normal lives back. At one point he makes friends with a Portuguese boy that admires Dodd and his skills. He and Dodd help lead a village into the hillside near the village where the young boy lives so that the French don’t kill all of the people there. Then helps lead guerilla warfare against the unfortunate French Battalion that takes home in the village. The villagers speak a different language then Dodd but that does little to affect Dodd’s choice to help the villagers fight back against the French. Coming from a unit of great respect the Ninety-Fifth was one of the best known units in the British army at this time in history, and Dodd is a harden veteran of many battles so he knew what to do and how to engage the enemy when they were outnumbered and outgunned but still come out victorious. And a long campaign begin in those hills as Dodd lead by example the villagers come…
