The Ring of fire (figure 1) is a horse shoe shaped fault line. This fault line is prone to Earth quakes and volcanic eruptions. The ring of fire Is home to 452 volcanoes and 75% of the worlds dormant and active volcanoes live on the Ring.
PLATE TECTONICS
Plate tectonics is a theory that the earth is split up in to different areas of the world. They glide on the mantle of the earth the plates act like a hard ridged shell (fig 2 plate tectonics) Some of the plate tectonics move very slowly each year for example in Iceland there is a visible line where the plates are moving if the plates merge together they can cause mountains and volcanos. Mountains and volcanoes are formed buy two plates colliding together and one plate gets pushed down into the earth while the other gets pushed up and creates a mountain range or volcanoes.(Figure 2 plate tectonics) …show more content…
The Andes, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, New Zealand. And the least effected on the ring is The US, Mexico, Canada, Russia, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia and Antarctica (figure 1 ring of fire)
The Ring of Fire
The ring of fire is a horse shoe shaped boundary spreading across multiple plates and trenches (reefer to plate tectonics ring of fire for more info) a large number of the worlds volcanoes dorment and active live on the ring of fire, also a large number of earthquakes happen, the ring is 40,000 km in length there is nearly a continuous series of oceanic trenches, volcanic arcs and volcanic belts and/or plate movements. All but 3 of the world’s 25 largest volcanic eruptions over the last 11,700
