Riordan Manufacturing Physical Layout and Network Security

Riordan currently operates four manufacturing plants; three located in the United States (San Jose, California; Pontiac, Michigan; and Albany, Georgia) and one overseas (Hang Zhou, China). Each plant contains the same basic departments, to include Sales and Marketing, Operations, Finance and Accounting, Information Technology (IT), Legal, and Human Resources. There are a few things we can do to make a good network even better, all four plants Sales and Marketing, Operations, Finance and Accounting, and Human Resources department netwoeks are all up to date with the latest equipment and software.

The network that is being used at Riordan Manufacturing in Pontiac, Michigan, has 45 dell Vostro desktops all using Windows 7 and MS Office 2007 which all are connected with CAT 5 cable for T-2 connection, (1) 48 and (1) 24 port Patch Panel which are connected to a Cisco Catalyst 3580 Ethernet switch, and 5 network printers. There is one Blade Server used as Print file, Exchange and Local ERP Back up to home office. There is also an APC Back – UPS 500 Clear is also in place for backup power supply.

As for the rest of the network goes, I would use Cat-6 cables instead of the Cat-5. Cat-6 is a thicker wire and will carry data longer distances than Cat-5 and

On November 13, 2007, a global, cross-functional team at Cisco Systems, Inc. was seeking the green light to start manufacturing a new router, code-named Viking. The team faced a number of challenges in launching the low-cost but powerful router for telecommunications service providers. After overhauling the project to sharply increase the router's planned speed and capacity, the company had just one year to launch the product, an unusually fast schedule. In addition, Viking team was proposing that manufacturing be launched in China, which had an ever-expending and ever- improving electronic manufacturing base. Therefore, Cisco could get the low-cost production right aways. It also planned to use contract manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group to produce the machine, even though Foxconn had never made such a complex product for Cisco. The case mainly talks about the some pressures and complexities of introducing a newly sophisticated technology product for a worldwide market and some considerations in achieving success in new product introduction.…
