Rizal's life
1. Describe how the directors come up the movie. The directors come up the movie how the Spaniards treat Filipinos during the time we’re colonized by them, the director showed us how hard the situation of the Filipinos, our ancestors that time, and the life of our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, it showed the sacrifices of many people for our beloved country inspite the fact that Spaniards are really powerful, and how did the Filipino fight for our beloved country.

2. Describe the actor who portrayed Rizal.
Mr. Cesar Montano is the one who portrayed as Dr. Jose P. Rizal. He acts like he’s the true Dr. Jose P. Rizal, from his physical being to attitude, He portrayed it well.

3. How was Rizal portrayed in general?
Rizal was portrayed as a genius and patriotic. He is so studious, open-minded person. He showed how he really cares to the Filipino.

4. Serious historical error that you observed.
For me the historical error on the movie was the love life of Rizal, and why they only focus on the Europe country even though Rizal did travel a lot of countries.

5. Strength of the film.
I think the strength of the movie is the acting of the characters or the cast was natural. The way the Spanish language was delivered was outstanding. And one of the good things I saw in the movie was that it did not only show Rizal’s strong or positive points but his weakness and personal struggles also.

6. Weakness of the film.
I think the weakness of the movie is they didn’t show clearly the Rizal’s biography.

7. Reaction.
The movie was good enough it gives a lot of knowledge and it made me realize that the life of Jose Rizal was not easy. The writers, cinematographer, editors and director surely were efficiently prepared in making the movie, as evidence by the transitions made on every scene, from real event to flashbacks, Rizal’s writing Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo and how they related to his life until the execution at Bagumbayan. Though I haven’t read the whole book, I could already understand what happened way back then. And it only shows that no man is perfect as was our national hero.

8. Give some lesson of the movie.
The positive moral, there is always a silent way of fighting for what you know is right because war cannot make our country free from problems. And the negative moral, what is the use of our freedom of speech if we will always fight just by writing, besides people nowadays are not anymore totally engaged in reading. Saniel, Julie Anne M. The film "Bontoc Eulogy" is about an American-Filipino man searching for his roots. He looked for confirmation and facts through the mountain province where he got actual footages of how the igorots are living and through different museums and records in the United States. He edited all his clips and re-enactments and made a whole narrative out of it. He made the film a story of how his igorot ancestor Marko was peacefully living in the Mounatin provinces and how he was just simply separated from his own family to be displayed for the civilized men to see in the St. Lous' World Fair in 1904. At the end he showed himself looking for artefacts and relics in different museums and end the story of himself wondering whether he will find his lost igorot ancestor or not. This film was a combination of facts and fiction. The actual footages were all real but the narrative that he made was all fiction. He may have an igorot ancestor but no one knows if this igorot ancestor of him is really part of the St. Louis' World Fair in 1904. Though the igorot ancestor story of him is just a fiction, we all know that fiction is sometimes necessary to light up the national consciousness in us. Rizal also used fiction in his time to uplift our desire for the better of our country. His novels were a great factor in building up the national consciousness of his fellow countrymen and lead them to fight for what is right for themselves and for their country. I was amazed how Marlon Fuentes made this kind of film/documentary. I love how he touched our human emotions to nourish the nationalist dream inside us by using a documentary and creating a story of how the ifugaos, our natives suffered in the St. Louis World Fair in 1904.…

Vividly recreating the important events of his life beginning in his childhood, the movie, “Jose Rizal,” directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya was the most expensive local film produced in 1998, costing Php 80 million, and was critically acclaimed here in the country and abroad. With Cesar Montano in the lead role, the star-studded cast and the large number of extras, both foreign and Spanish, brought to life the story of the national hero and the times wherein he lived. The desire of the film to faithfully recreate the past can be seen in its diverse settings, from the Mercado household in rural Calamba, Laguna, to the lively parlor rooms of Madrid, Spain. Striving to stick to the usage of Spanish and German languages for the characters, the seriousness of the film’s producers and their need for authenticity are very evident.…

Third, the writing of another ending for the novel El Filibusterismo. In the movie it was shown that Dr. Jose Rizal was hallucinating and he saw the character he created, Simoun appealing to him about his works, and telling Dr. Jose Rizal of how he should have ended the novel. Which lead to Dr. Jose Rizal in reflecting to himself and wrote another climax of his novel El Filibusterismo. This is inconsistent with history because there and it is obvious that is something made up for the viewers to be more interested in the film.…

Characters of this movie made a realistic portrayal of their role. Like those Spanish characters where they really use Spanish language and you can feel that it was really during 19th century. Archbishop Bernardo, Andres Bonifacio, Paciano, Luis Taviel de Andrade and of course Jose Rizal are the characters that made the movie more exciting.…

Philip Salvador displayed excellent acting skills, displaying a wide range of emotion from rage to affection and from fear of separation and excitement of reunion. Rio Locsin portrayed the ever-loving mother and Carlo Aquino’s portrayal of the Sakristan whose loyalties to his family and nation conflicted with his devotion to God and to the priest.Ryan Eigenmann was pretty good for the role he was put in as the officer who succeeded the two officers who died in battle. I believe that Ryan Eigenmann is one of the most effective kontrabidas (villains) of his generation in Philippine Cinema.Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales also delivered their best in fulfilling the requirements of the storyline. The film, somehow, failed to completely suspend my disbelief and transport me to 19th century Baler. Perhaps it was the dialogues, or the production set or the speech (and accent) of the Spanish soldiers. Several times during the movie, I felt like it was a twenty-first century film set in a remote province.…

First of all, I want to criticize the whole movie first, the movie was great so is the stars who acted upon the characters who was born on late 1800’s when Dr. Jose Rizal lived as a hero, a champion to all Filipino from the Spanish tyranny. This movie really portrays the all the different kinds of emotion exerted by all filipinoes in the hands of the Spanish government. In terms of Rizal’s life, although they didn’t exactly tell all of his exploits, we can see through the actor how Rizal passionately battle the friars from their ridiculous teachings and habits which we can’t see in the holy bible. Rizal's multifaceted aspects include his skills, talents and knowledge about poetry, painting, academics, medicine, philosophy, history, law and international languages. These aspects only prove how intelligent and gifted Rizal is even more when he wrote literary articles to attack the Spanish oppressors in the Philippines. Rizal, as a student, manifested proficiency and excellency because at a very young age, his mother was teaching him basic skills like reading which is very important in his foundation in being such. He excelled in every class he was in except when he entered the university run by the Dominicans where blood prevails more than performance. As a son, he showed his deep love and reverence for his father by simply obeying what his father tells him. For instance, when he took the course his father wanted him to take. As a brother, Rizal also showed his trust, dependence and love for Paciano. He treated him as his second father for the fact that they have a very huge age gap. They were always by each other's side. In fact, Paciano is the first and only person who knew about Rizal flying in to Europe. As a friend, Rizal expressed his loyalty and friendliness. He gained so many friends and acquaintances in school and even in the foreign countries. One great example is his friendship with Blumentritt. They write letters to…

The movie is about two writers of the film who seek to make a film or documentary to show the real events in the life of the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Not just an ordinary movie about Rizal's life, but a film that depicts the issues about his heroism that most Filipinos have not been aware of. This became a problem for the writer of the movie, what would be the main subject of their film or documentary. Rizal's life has been filmed by foreign directors, and not to liken their projects in the pre-movie they want to vary the angle. Another problem they have is how they write and how they can communicate to appropriate viewers the message they want to convey.…

It was effective in building up emotions on its audience. It could have been a little boring in the beginning, but that is overlooked as little by little, the story gains pace, the emotions build up, and suddenly, the audience are absorbed into the story, into the words of the actors. It is a gripping experiencing that forced me to rethink and fully appreciate the talent of Asians and the beauty of Filipino culture.…

The actors and actresses delivered their parts very well and the music was also noticeably great. The director did a remarkable twist on the plot, on how the Filipino folklore was added. Yet as the play continued to the next act, the language they spoke continued to confuse us audience including I. As a student I admit I have a poor Visayan vocabulary and can only speak the basic and understand it. Many of the scenes were really difficult to comprehend and decipher. With their actions somehow I did understand some parts but as a whole it really confused me.…

The film started with a scene showing Rizal at Belgium writing a letter. The letter contains his thoughts that the Philippines has a serious illness and that it is plagued by the Spanish domination over our country. Crisostomo Ibarra was also introduced in the film, and it is Rizal’s alter ego. Ibarra had been forced to have two personalities because of the worsening problem in our country. He cursed the revolution and even the youth because they are asking for chains and not freedom with Spain. He said, “Mamamatay kayo bago pa man dumating ang inyong kamatayan.”…
