In my class we are reading the book, The Outsiders written by S.E Hinton. We also read the poem,” Nothing Gold Can Stay “ written by Robert Frost. The book has two groups, the greasers and Soc’s and between them there is a lot of conflict. In the poem it means things can’t stay forever. Chapter four of The Outsiders talks about how Johnny kills Bob one of the Soc’s, and they run away, and the poem,” Nothing Gold Can Stay” is about everything changes overtime.…
Hinton uses this poem in the novel to show that things always change. For example, the poem states, “Nature’s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold.” Frost is saying that at first everything is pure, but it’s hard to keep it that way. This relates to The Outsiders because in the beginning of Ponyboy’s life, everything was fine. Ponyboy and Johnny even gained a lot of fame and recognition for saving the kids from the burning church. This reminds us of how pure everything is at the beginning. In addition to changing, Robert Frost writes, “Her early leaf’s a flower; but only so an hour.” In this part of the poem, Frost describes how hard it is to keep things perfect. This also relates to the novel because Ponyboy and Johnny’s brief moment…
“Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost and “Seasons of Gold” by Claudia Martell, Nevaeh Bruck, and Aaron Grant both have similarities and differences. Some are easy to spot and are hard to spot. Robert Frost uses longer and complicated words, while Claudia, Nevaeh, and Aaron use concise words. First of all, “Nothing Gold Can Stay” and “Seasons of Gold” have different meanings, one example is “ Nature’s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold.” This means that nothing new will always have its characteristics.…
“Nothing Gold Can Stay” is a modernist work because it has rejection of sentimentality and artificiality by saying nothing gold or good can stay. In this poem it says at the start everything is gold or perfect then it goes away in the end which has loss of faith. It is rejecting Eden as a hero and who is flawed.…
The poem “ Nothing Gold Can Stay” relates to the book” The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton because it shows that they thought Dally was so gold and when he got shot that’s when the nothing gold can stay part comes into play.…
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” By Victor Frankl…
In the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” the themes of youth & Innocence are conveyed throughout the poem. In the text the elements of title, setting/imagery, author's presentation of information, and ideas are used to express the theme in the poem. In the poem the author uses the element of the title to relate to the themes of innocence and youth because the title means, nothing good lasts…
Reading this incredible story “The Outsiders” By S.E. Hinton was an inspirational book it opened my eyes to such other things that is more important that is going on in the world. I’ve learned a valuable lesson, like to stay gold like the poem in the book. Nature’s first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold, her leaf’s a flower, but only as an hour, then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief. So dawn goes down to day nothing gold can stay. I am guessing by that he means nothing good stays, because you are a kid, everything is new and you are pure and innocent, and when you get older, everything changes Like Johnny was telling Pony boy to stay gold , he was telling pony boy to stay good and b himself and not…
"Sonnet 15" is one of 154 surviving sonnets written by literary idol William Shakespeare. The sonnet describes the fatalistic loss of perfection through time in much the same way Robert Frost does in his poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay". Shakespeare goes further with his description by describing how man fights the inevitable loss of perfection and beauty. My surmise is that Shakespeare holds a position that everyone should hold.…
Throughout life are untold dangers and unnumbered hardships. With every new day comes change, and with every change, big or small, there is a new obstacle to be conquered. Sure, some obstacles are petty pebbles on the road, but some are boulders blocking the path to your destination. In these particular situations, you bond with others sharing your experience and begin to realize, you cannot move forward by yourself. Around you, families pile up and gather around. What you lack, another may have and vice-versa. Suddenly what was his is yours and what was yours…
As Johnny had said to Ponyboy “stay gold” which refers to when Ponyboy recites the poem “ Nothing gold can stay” to Johnny in the church. The qualities that I feel allow me to stay gold were passed down to me at a young age. The strength and values being passed down from generation to generation feel as though they have grown stronger with time. My golden qualities are that I’m honorable, I’m ethical, and a nurturer.…
Robert Frost desires his poetry to “begin in delight and end in wisdom.” He achieves this as seen in “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” using metaphors, soft alliterations and wise biblical allusions showing that everything beautiful and young comes to an end.…
Frost explains that nothing, especially that which is perfect and beautiful, can last forever. Frost says, "Nature's first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold, Her early leafs a flower, but only so an hour," meaning that "gold" is considered beautiful and perfect but is the hardest to keep. Gold will only last a short time. The above quote from the poem also means that the best things in life, represented by gold, can't last forever as represented by the second line of the poem. The poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost holds several meanings that relate beauty to life, staying young and beautiful, and that perfection is only temporary and easily lost. The poem also related to the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton as well.…
It’s easy to stay stagnant, to not welcome change, to live a mundane life, to play it safe, but if you never try, then you’ll never know. You need to experience things to grow from them, You’ll need to make mistakes to learn from them.…
Every day we are given a fresh start; another chance to move forward in our lives and accomplish the things we thrive to achieve day to day. A new day can also liberate us from our past mistakes and provide us with a chance to change our ways. We are all faced with misery and misfortune at points in our lives, some more than others. We must recognize that it is not the burden in itself that shapes who we are, but how well or how poorly we deal with the difficulties. Sometimes misfortunes can be seen in a negative light; because it seems unjust, therefore we response in a negative matter, and become negligent to change. Overcoming tragic events is what truly counts, for we are meant to live happily and in acceptance that there are things that we cannot change. In many cases, individuals seem to feel as though they’ve lost an amount so great that they are unable to free themselves of the pain. This perspective often leads to further suffering. A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahou and Kiss Me by Andrew Pyper demonstrate a loss of identity, negligence towards communication, and eventually leading to the destruction of a relationship.…
