Roberto De La Selva, At The Fair
There are so many works of arts that speak to an individual and grabs their attention. I wanted to choose a work of art that meant something to me personally. I wanted to write about a piece that reminded me of my childhood and the town I grew up in. Originally from El Paso Texas, I grew up in a mostly Hispanic culture with deep roots tied to Hispanic heritage. When I came across this piece it reminded of all the special events from my childhood that celebrated the culture and it brought back a lot of good memories for me. The piece I chose is by Roberto De La Selva, At the fair (En la feria), 1934. The piece is made of wood, polychromed white mahogany. It is 59 inches high and 47 inches wide. The piece is housed at the San Antonio Museum of Art. …show more content…
In the background of the piece there is a woman holding a dead chicken with a bowl of what looks like possibly fruit on her head. In front of her is a child standing with her back from the viewer and is holding a basket of fruit that she seems to be presenting to the woman with the chicken. Front center of the piece is a couple. The man seems to be trying to lead the woman somewhere. She stands in front of him with her back turned away from him and has her hand placed over her chest. The expression on her face seems to express some sadness for something. Far right of the piece in the background is a group of three people, two women and a man who seem to be having a pleasant conversation among themselves. One of the women has her back turned away from the viewer of the piece and is holding a bundle of chili

For my visual analysis assignment I chose to go visit the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It has been an extremely long time since I last visited a museum. I took my twelve year old son with me to explore what the museum had to offer. We found the art to be very interesting, educational and unique. There were so many beautiful pieces throughout the museum that it was difficult trying to decide which one I wanted to base my visual analysis on.…

Roberto Enrique Clemente Walker was born on August 18, 1934. He was the youngest of 7 children to Don Melchor Clemente and Luisa Walker. He was a professional baseball player for 18 seasons (@BaseballHall). Many people held racist views towards him as a colored player, the most influential in baseball history, because he broke barriers for Latin American players, he helped on an off the field, and he was a MVP caliber player for 12 years. He was one of the best to ever play and will forever be remembered.…

Have you ever had a painting that really spoke to you? When I visited the David Owsley Art Museum there was one painting in particular that stuck out to me, it was: Right Bird Left by Lee Krasner. Tis painting made me feel happy and gave me a lot of energy during the time I was at the museum. It caught the attention of my eye by using several different visual elements to depict an abstract representation art piece. Along with that it used principle of designs to help the visual elements play out and work in the painting so that things can be depicted to the human eye correctly. This piece might have looked like bird feathers but it used many different techniques to give me a bigger underlying meaning behind a such complex painting. This piece…

Art allow people to send awareness of problems that have been easily rejected by justice. The second art Museum that I attended this semester was the National Museum of Mexican art. I was very excited to attend this museum because after seeing the Art Institute for the first time I felt in love with art. When I arrive at the museum I enter the first exhibit as my friend and I were talking around the corner one beautiful painting caught my attention. The name of the art piece was Los Sueños Rotos (Broken Dreams) by Rocio Caballero. This painting stood out to because of how realistic this painting looked. I told my friend that this painting was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, my friend also liked it.…

The cartoon, with what seems to be a caterer holding a platter with a cranium, or skull on it, is handing the lovely gift to a woman. The scenery is outlandish and ornamental. The contemporary piece I would like to discuss from out chapters is Gabriel Orozco, Juego de limones (game of Limes)(2001). I have always had a love for the art form of Photography. The ability to find meaning in everyday life, to capture a moment of emotion or make a person see an everyday sight in a new way is inspiring to me. Gabriel's photo does just that to viewers. He paid close attention the aesthetic value each item holds.…

About a month ago, I made a visit to the San Antonio Museum of Art. The museum offered a huge array of pieces and exhibits. After spending a fun filled two hours combing through the museum’s awesome collections (Btw, I enjoyed the amulets and relics in the glass exhibits tremendously!), there were three pieces which made quite an impression on me. I left thinking how do I choose from the best of three—each having the power to intrigue or move me in some way. I felt a definite connection with each of the pieces. The piece I ended up choosing was on the 4th floor in the European Section. It was a painting by Agustin Esteve entitled Four Children. It is oil on canvas, 97 inches by 23 inches, and was painted in the late 18th century. When I first came by this painting, I tried to avoid reading the label on it, so that I could try and understand the piece before I allowed someone else to inform my perspective. I remember feeling a sense of mysticism to it when I first seen it. The painting depicts four children in a dark woody area. There appears to be a fog behind them. The child in the middle is dressed in all black with a bird in his hand. The piece seemed to evoke fear in me at first ( I am still not sure why!) Perhaps it was the colors and tones which helped to create that unsettling feeling(dramatic effect). Right off, I noticed the lines used were soft and smooth, like Renoir employs in his paintings/portraits. The emphasis was on the children in the center of the picture. My first impression was that the kids were lost somewhere and very afraid, but that idea did not mesh well with me because one the boys seemed to cling to him, while the other stared off into the distance with no emotion in his eyes, and he seemed to be leading the boy away with his eyes. Off to the far right is a young girl dressed in her Sunday best, with a flower and black pendant in her left hand and a ribbon on her chest.…

I think that artist don’t have to create so many beautiful pieces to make us remember it but to make it a history instead. Making their great pieces into history can give other generations some ideas of what had happened in the past and they should stop and observe every event that might be occurring on the painting. Pieces of work that artist make should be for our enjoyment and to remember what happened in the past and in this era. An example would be Altar to the Chases High School, 1987. (pg.59)…

For example, Osorio work of art Chandelier located in the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington D.C displays such a powerful message. The Chandelier covered in pearls and plastic figures of what looks like people of Latino descent this representation of art gives me the impression of his culture and what it is like living in the Bronx as a Puerto Rican and African Caribbean this art work shows the dreams, hopes and hardships of those people living in New york the art work displayed embodied immigrant culture of the 1950’s and 1960’s showing how people of Puerto Rican descent emigrated from the islands then he also added hints of himself inside the art work elements of things from his childhood things he associated…

This one seems to fit in with the other art creations at the Jen library though, because around it the other works of art are almost the same in size, this helps give you an idea at how very large this other piece is. Unlike the first piece, this one has a wood base that is left unpainted or stained. Then close to the bottom left corner it has wood planks with white plaster on them all laid pointing outwards from a circle in the center, it reminds one very much of a giant daisy without a yellow center, unlike the top one you get a happy feeling because of this bright beautiful flower. The planks however are torn at the end, and this beautiful daisy starts to look more battered and worn down, it’s kind of sad. Placed above the hole where the yellow pollen of a flower should lay is three rows of five blocks. All of the blocks are made of foam and painted a bright pink, and they are all lined up in straight rows and are uniform, except for one at the bottom left, that one is slightly tilted. In the end I loved how this looked, and when going deeper into the meaning you can really see why this connects so well with the other darker art…

As an art student, I find the art that we learn about in class very interesting because it is art that I would never be interested in, but yet after learning the details I enjoy them. Although I don’t mind learning art through power points, I find physically looking at art more enjoyable. Getting the whole experience of physical artwork is a more exciting way to learn and catches my interest more, which is why I was so excited to visit a new museum and look at some art. For this assignment I decided to go to the LACMA museum. I have been to many museums before, but I have not visited the Los Angeles County Museum of Art yet so I was very excited. I find a lot of art very fascinating, but I am more interested in the more contemporary and modern arts. I am a design major so I was drawn to the sculptural art pieces that were displayed outside the building. One piece in particular that I found very beautiful and fascinating was an outside display entitled “Urban Light”.…
