Rock 'n' roll was born out of blues and country music, but soon these genres became only part of something much more flavorful. Psychedelia was very similar to the format of jazz music, which helped create a musical revolution and liberated rock music from its blues foundations and previous constraints. This gave musicians the guts to take more risks by changing time signatures and becoming more musically progressive with their sound.
In conclusion, the ideology and sound of psychedelic rock is pretty much in-line with the original principles of rock ‘n’ roll. While psychedelia incorporated many new instruments and topics, the fundamental idea, to be carefree and challenge societal norms through music, was still prevalent.
