American exceptionalism is a pivotal concept within the American culture. Stemming from a revolution, this theory shaped a new way of thinking within the United States that seemed far different from many other cultures. Seymour Martin Lipset used this concept to explain, “why the United States is the only industrialized country which does not have a significant socialist movement or Labor party.” This essentially explains why America is extraordinary. Punk personifies American exceptionalism with its distinct lifestyle to be different from the norm, and is surrounded by independent self-governing thinkers. The United States didn’t become what it is today because of law abiding and passive citizens. This is also a main reason why Punk Rock became so popular in America, and has stayed relevant to teens and young adults all over the world. People began to thrive on understanding the history of this nation, and take pride in the originality of our constitution, and way of life. Punk Rock adds another chapter in the long list of independent concepts and ideas within the American Culture.…

Music has gradually changed, as the decades have passed, to include a variety of different styles; each being influenced in some way by the early blues and rhythm. As it does presently, in that time period, music created many conflicts between generations. Also in those decades, music created conflict between racial and gender classes. Glenn C. Altschuler, author of All Shook Up, discusses in this book all of these conflicts, and what rock ‘n’ roll did to aid or to discourage people of this time.…

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “punk?” Do you think of a violent, attention-seeking young person, or do you think of a rebellious teenager who is trying to go against the mainstream society? “Punk is about being 16 and saying no.” According to Encarta Dictionary: English, punk is a youth movement of the late 1970s, characterized by loud aggressive rock music, confrontational attitudes, body piercing, and unconventional hairstyles, makeup, and clothing. Characterized by its fast and heavy use of guitars and drums, punk rock has influenced our society and political system throughout the history of its genre. Punk rock has a great history behind it and also has a very deep political influence behind it. The lyrics of punk rock music are often purposely controversial and offensive and the artists use the lyrics in their own unique way to express the way they feel on various topics.…
