Lawrence. We see this everywhere in life because some people just won't give up and they will keep going until they achieve it. Most people have the fear of failure outweigh their desire to succeed. The fear of failure is the reason why people don't take it to the next level. People who are really determined and competitive sometimes say this line, “I will not stop until you stop, I will die trying to beat you. There are two ways this is going to end, either you are going to give up first or I am going to die trying.” This saying explains this so well. Greatness is not something that comes from a DNA strand it is something that comes from inside of us a drive that is willing to make themselves better. In this story the young boy is determined to win money and get his family some money so they are not broke anymore. He wants his mom to have a good lifestyle as a young kid. As young kid he sees this and it is really sad and joyful at the same time. This young boy is willing to waste his investments for his

“Never give up, and be confident in what you do. There may be tough times, but the difficulties which gave you face will make you more determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all odds.” This was what women’s Brazilian soccer star Marta once advised. Never giving up may sound like a goal that is impossible to reach in reality. Although that may be true, in literature there are characters who exhibit it ideally. For instance, Joan Bauer’s short story “A Letter from the Fringe” introduces a figure who showcases these traits. On a somber day, Dana, the protagonist, a high school student at Bronley High was tormented by bullies alongside her friend Sally for being overweight. Although, it seemed as if her heart had been torn out and thrown to the side, she was capable of forcing the two tyrants to flee. Afterwards, she insisted that they had no right to…

Since the creation of humans, the world’s inhabitants have needed human connections and family. Adam needed eve, a newborn baby needs his parents, the monster from Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (1831) needed a family, and Michael from Michael by William Wordsworth (1800) identified himself by his love for his son, Luke. The way a child grows up and the involvement of his family plays a large role in the development of character and his outlook on life. If fathers and mothers did not leave, if siblings always took care of each other, and if there was no betrayal within home life, maybe the world would look significantly different than it does today. Although human relationships in general are a vital part to life, family relationships are the…

For any human being, family means a lot. In the folktale, “The Old Grandfather and His Little Grandson”, and the poem, “Abuelito Who”, are both examples of how much we can sometimes overlook the people who care about us or that we care about. “The Old Grandfather and His Little Grandson” is mainly about how people can be cruel but sometimes they realize what they had done wasn’t right. “Abuelito Who”, on the other hand, is mostly about how people can get older and we may not even know how much time we have left with them before it’s too late. The universal theme (something that most people can relate to in at least one way) that is expressed throughout both of these writings are almost obvious.…
