With an increase in the demand for natural beef, it is surprising that kosher options have been slow in coming but this month saw the launch of Tevye’s Ranch product line which offers affordable glatt kosher, grass fed, antibiotic-free organic beef.…
On 05/08/16 at 4:57pm, I was dispatched to the 1500 block of Cottonwood Drive on a dog at large, no known owner. I arrived at 1430 Cottonwood Dr and spoke to the complainant, who stated that the dog has been running loose around the area and almost getting hit by cars. She pointed out the address of 1492 Cottonwood Drive where the door was on the front porch. I arrived at the house and the dog proceeded to leave the front porch. I tried to capture the dog. Unable to capture the dog, I knocked on the door to see if anyone was home. I receive no answer; I was able to get the dog back on the porch with treats, where I place a leash on the dog. I placed the dog in the van. There was no current owner information on the dog; I left a door…
Our whole wagon train met at the front entrance and we left Fort Kearney together. It was a nice stay, but we had to keep moving. As we were traveling on the trail, we were stopped by the South Platte River. We need to cross the river in order to follow a stream that heads to the North. We check if there were bridges around the place since the water was shallow, but we saw no bridge. We decided to use the sand bar we saw so we can get across the river. As we crossed the river, Michael almost fell off the sand bar with his 13 year old son. Luckily Curtis pulled him up and we were successfully able to cross the river.…
Moving on, the twenty-eight women discussed in this book are all linked through a complex network, which made them very strong in a time where women had no real strength. Almost all of them held top federal jobs in Washington DC. They were all educated women, born in the same generation. A sisterhood, supporting each other and encouraging each other after every victory, no matter how small, linked them very closely. These women gave each other the moral support and mentorship that seems absent in today's society.…
I have been so blessed to stay home and raise my two children Kynnedy and Hayes for the last four years. But the pages are turning over onto a new chapter of my life. I have always been infatuated with the land agriculture and everything that goes with it. So I'm proud to announce I am officially a Realtor/Agent with Reata Ranch Realty and will be working out of our office here in Mason, Texas a town I have to truly grown to love and admire! The people here are genuine and the ground is solid. Thank you to everyone that has supported and inspired me to take on this next endeavor!…
One night, some girls from the reservation proudly lead the rest of us in attempting their tribal dances, jumping almost skipping around the fire chanting in their native language. Watching the girls dance, I was introduced to a different culture and way of life that exists just forty-five minutes from my home. The diversity I have found at camp has broadened my world and perspectives.…
My feet ached as I passed through the automatic screen door to the snow filled Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport parking lot. The cool, crisp air stung my face, but my smile remained. Seven slow years have passed since I visited Crested Butte, Colorado, and I have been craving to return the moment I left. The towering mountains, blissful blue sky, and blinding white snow from the piercing sun makes Colorado a place like no other. I stood waiting on the icy concrete for my dad to pull around Baby Blue, a 1996 Chevrolet Astro van my family had nicknamed. My family visited Colorado in 2010, because my mom’s boss owns a timeshare condo, which included Baby Blue. He offered us a vacation to Crested Butte where we could have a free place to…
CRACK The newly cut wood sends bits and pieces of red hot coals in all directions, but are blocked down quickly by the charcoaled black cast iron wood burner. The unexplainable scent of the surroundings crawls into your nose and give you the constant reminder that you are in Charlies Bear Valley cabin.…
Growing up in Alabama was not easy for me; however, I manage to get through the rough patches of my life. I am the fourth oldest and was raised by my mother in Montgomery Alabama. This is where many memories and fun times took place, although money, food, and resources were limited. We had ends meet the best way that we could. My father was in my life but I had and uncle that was like a father to me. He taught me everything that I needed to know when it came to being a man. In this paper, we will reflect back over my life and share with you how tragedy of losing a love one changed my life. Three things contribute to me going down the wrong path. The three things are as followed:…
Every year, my family on my dad’s side goes rafting down the Truckee river. It has always been a tradition to go to tahoe over the summer, and go rafting one of those days. Over the years, we have had many fond memories, like water fights with water guns, and pushing people into the water. First, we go down to the place to rent the raft, they set up our family with two, and then we go down the river until there is a bend where they take you and your raft out. At the end of the place where you can raft, there is a little grill that we would go to for lunch.…
In the memoir, “Farm Girl”, Jessica Hemauer shares her reflection from working hard doing chores on the farm. Jessica noticed that being a farm girl does not allow her to be like the other classmates. Jessica eventually realized she was different from the rest of her peers. “A typical ten-year-old child does not have to wake up at five in the morning to do chores!” (Hemauer, 2011, p.83) Jessica knew that she had no social life at school because her farm girl family routines. Jessica felt that at her age she should be able to juggle a social life and her daily routines on the farm.…
Today we reached Independence Rock. As soon as we get there we pull out a blanket and have a picnic. We had bread and meat with whatever was left over from the morning meal. After we eat, we carved our names on the top of the rock where the sun points too. We carved it in the order of wagon trails, family, and their age. We carved our names in with a pocket knife. We sat next to the rock. The rock is super tall and was hard to climb it.…
The focus of the short story “Dancer” by Vickie Sears is the positive progression of the main character, Clarissa, a foster child who gains a sense of her cultural identity as a Native. In the beginning of the story, she is introduced as a child with next to nothing and is portrayed to have psychopathic traits. Towards the end of the story, there are positive changes in her character. The main factor that led to Clarissa’s progression was her developing a strong interest in the powwow that led her to gain a sense of being a part of a family, knowledge about the community, and a better understanding of her history and culture.…
It was a camp rule and expected of all girls at Camp DeSoto to regularly write our families. However, history of frantic parents calling the camp office to check if their child was still alive had revealed a reality that youngsters will not take it upon themselves to sit down and write a letter back to their family. DeSoto’s leaders came up with the perfect incentive in which guarantee our parents’ receiving at least one letter per week. We were required to present a two page letter home to our parents upon entry into the meal hall every…
