Rodney Akins Watching You Analysis
I like the song ”Watching You” by Rodney Akins because it perfectly describes how me and my little sister, Lauren’s, relationship is. For the longest time she would watch and mimic me; I hated it. My mom would tell me that I needed to be the bigger person that it wasn’t hurting me, but at the time I thought it was. My entire life goal was to be different and unique, but when she would come behind me and repeat what I did, it makes my entire goal purposeless. What I didn’t realize at the time was that it was teaching me to be aware that other people are watching me at times I never thought they would. As a Christian, people do watch us, and we are supposed to shine the light of Christ at all times. My sister still to this day tries to mimic

    Jake Riley Analysis

I believe that the theme of the novel Jake Riley; Irreparably damaged by Rebecca Fjelland Davis is not to judge a book by its cover. Usually, I find myself following this saying. The theme is shown in a smaller instance when Lainey's friends assume she was in love with Jake. She denies it after they whisper into her ear, “‘Why didn't you tell us’” (Davis 14). Another instance in the book somewhat shows the main theme when Lainey and the school counsellor are arguing about Jake. Lainey begins to lose all control of herself after the counsellor begins making assumptions about Jake doing something illegal, so she ends up yelling at Mrs. Prebyl, saying, “‘. . . Maybe what Jake needs is somebody who thinks he's not irreparably damaged’” (Davis 228).…

Shameless is a show based in chicago which is kind of weird knowing how bad chicago is with all the crime that’s going on and the high murder rate but then again Lancaster hasn't been the safest of cities in the u.s either. Well shameless is about a dysfunctional family who struggles with life every single day, and every day there seems to be a new problem that occurs. Even though the main characters happen to have their own set of problems they always value family first and remain loyal to each other while I watch their family acting how they are it made me appreciate my family because we can be so many things but at least we're not crazy like the gallagher family. The main characters in the show consists of the gallagher family, Frank , Fiona , Lip , Ian , Carl , Debby , Liam and other supporting characters like Mickey and Karen. my personal favorite on the show is lip because he’s the cool brother who gets good grades and all the hot chicks he is sorta like me but I get bad grades well I did in high school. On a serious note this show made me feel every…

Julie Beck interviews Dr. Rick Hanson, a neuropsychologist, about ways in which people can adopt a happy lifestyle. The first point explained by Dr. Henson is that our brains tend to focus on the negative, which leaves people stressed and unhappy. Dr. Hanson reasons that people need to take positive experiences seriously. In other words, he wants people to “sink positive experiences” deep in people’s brains. Dr. Henson calls this concept “taking in the good.” If people want to achieve this mindset, first they have get rid of positive thinking and adopt clear thinking, which put it briefly means to take into account positive and negative experiences. By relating a little story of evolution, Dr. Hanson arrives to the conclusion that positive…

“Collectively, we are in thrall to media - because they deliver to us many of the psychic goods we crave, and we know no other way to live.” Quoted from Todd Gitlin. Media coverage played and still plays a huge roll in our lives. For many generations, especially for the millennial’s, its our only way of communication from what’s going on around us. We are now humans who are glued to our phones and computer screens. Its hard to know what is the truth and what is exaggerated, because there are so many sources from all different view points. Todd Gitlin writes about the importance of mass media and the connection with social movements in his book “The Whole World is Watching”. He defines the communication between past social movements and the media.…

Annemarie Powell’s article “Get in the Game: Encouraging Play and Game Creation to Develop New Literacies in the Library” discusses the ways in which play allows children to develop fundamental skills such as new literacies, competencies, and deeper relationships and understandings of the subject material (Powell, 2013, p. 836). Importantly, Powell articulates the necessity of integrating games and playtime with curriculums so that children can better learn and connect with the subject material. Richard spent most of his life in poverty. Being the child of an absent father and a mother who was struggling to make ends meet with more than one child in the house. At the age of seven while in school Richard falls in love with a girl in Money, define it simply is a medium of exchange. We trade it for things we want or need. Most of us probably don’t look back on the money we spend, mainly because we don’t give it that value. When we do, however, is when we don’t have as much as we would like. Those of us who take it for granted, fail to see that there are some who have spent their whole lives trying to make enough just to put food in their stomachs. The latter was the case of Richard, the boy in the article “Shame” by Dick Gregory.…
