RODRIGO: Well, school already sucks.
ANTHONY: Dude, we haven’t even done anything that complicated today.
RODRIGO: Where are we going to now?
ANTHONY: Lunch?
FRANCISCO: Rodrigo, have you even looked at your schedule.
RODRIGO: Who needs schedules when I have you two to look out for me, and today hasn’t gone over so hot. Don’t you two hate being confined like this? I don’t like this school there’s too many people always looking at you like there’s something wrong.
ANTHONY: You’ll get used to it, and let’s just get to lunch. I heard it’s tacos in a bag today.
RODRIGO: Good I’m starving.
(Cuts to lunch).
RODRIGO: They call this tacos? It’s like taco slop.
ANTHONY: What’s with the …show more content…
negativity today?
RODRIGO: I’m sorry that I’m agitated in thinking that every white man in this school is out to get me.
FRANCISCO: Is that what you’ve been so caught up on lately?
RODRIGO: I can’t help it, I just want to punch that Neanderthal jock’s face in.
ANTHONY: Let’s not get too caught up in it shall we, it happened once so let’s just leave it in the past.
(Francisco looks distracted again and makes eye contact with Gloria from across the lunch room, he then smiles and looks down).
RODRIGO: (With food stuffed in his face). So what other classes do you have today?
FRANCISCO: Me?
RODRIGO: Yeah lover boy. I swear sometimes you go to a whole other world.
ANTHONY: Well you are pretty boring Rodrigo. (Laughs).
RODRIGO: Oh shut up Tony. (Punches Anthony in the arm).
FRANCISCO: I have music, English, and then art last period.
RODRIGO: Dang you got lucky for your afternoon classes.
ANTHONY: Yeah, I’m still stuck with Mr. Tough guy here.
(Jason, Troy, and Dylan walk buy just as he says that).
JASON: Oh, so Mr. Bigshot thinks he’s tough huh?
DYLAN: Yeah we’ll see about that.
(They all sit down around Francisco, Anthony, and Rodrigo).
RODRIGO: I’m sorry, but white trash goes into the bin over there not at our table.
TROY: (Stands up). Who do you think you’re calling white trash punk?
DYLAN: Do you even know who we are?
RODRIGO: Honestly, I don’t even care who you are, but trust me we can get to know each other real well right here right now.
ANTHONY: Rodrigo, back off. (To the bullies). Listen we don’t want trouble.
JASON: I swear, if you say that one more time dweeb, I’m gonna drag you into this.
DYLAN: Yeah don’t pee your panties, you’re not even worth it.
TROY: We want the spics.
FRANCISCO: Ok, that’s where I draw the line. What right do you have to discriminate on us? What did we even do to you? If this is about this morning, I hope you know that Victoria was gonna end it with you anyways.
JASON: (Stands up). You should’ve kept your filthy mouth shut. What do you know?
FRANCISCO: From the situation, you were the one who should’ve kept their mouth shut. Victoria was right, you’re nothing but a dumb asshole.
JASON: (Now shaking with rage). I am going to end you. Let’s leave. We will see you two later.
FRANCISCO: (To Rodrigo). What a dick.
RODRIGO: Thanks man, but you really didn’t have to get yourself involved like that.
FRANCISCO: Don’t worry we’re in this together.
ANTHONY: You two are so stupid, I swear.
(Francisco notices Gloria getting up to walk to the music hall.)
RODRIGO: Well what are you waiting on… go to her.
(Francisco follows Gloria into the music room. And goes up to her and puts his hands on her eyes.)
FRANCISCO: Guess who?
GLORIA: (Giggles). Hmm I wonder who? Is it my new neighbor?
FRANCISCO: (Takes hands off of her eyes). Am I just your neighbor?
GLORIA: (Flirtatiously smiles). For now. (Gives a gentle pat on the face). So what are you doing here?
FRANCISCO: I wanted to see you, what are you doing here?
GLORIA: Sorry, I have to practice.
FRANCISCO: Can I stay and at least listen to you?
GLORIA: (Looks around). Yeah, I’m going to be with the teacher, but I’ll just say you’re my page flipper.
FRANCISCO: Well I know I can do that.
(Ms. Kathleen comes in stressed out with a cup of coffee in her hand and a salad in the other.)
MS. KATHLEEN Ok Gloria, I just got off the phone with your father. Today we are going to play some Beethoven piano concertos. Do you have your music?
GLORIA: Yes Ms. Kathleen.
MS. KATHLEEN Let’s get onto it then. Whenever you are ready.
(Gloria starts playing).
MS. KATHLEEN Focus Gloria, you seem to be distracted today. Start over.
(Gloria tries again).
MS. KATHLEEN Good, but you can do better. Do it again.
MS. KATHLEEN Alright Gloria, now before our actual class begins, you are truly a prodigy. With more practice I believe your name will go down in the books. Keep it up kiddo.
GLORIA: Ms. Kathleen?
MS. KATHLEEN: Yes dear?
GLORIA: I was wanting to know if we could have an after school pre-recital concert? Victor has more music he wants me to run with you.
MS. KATHLEEN: Yeah, let me know what day is best for you, but right now I’m gonna eat before lunch ends.
FRANCISCO: Wow G you were amazing!
GLORIA: Eh, I could always use more work, but thanks.
FRANCISCO: (Begin to walk out). Well I don’t care what people say you are amazing,
(Scene cuts to the end of the day as Anthony, Rodrigo, and Francisco bust out of the doors as school lets out).
RODRIGO: Hell yeah, day one down.
ANTHONY: Yeah, and 179 days to go.
FRANCISCO: Well it’s a small victory for our school hating friend.
(All laugh until they notice the bully trio waiting for them).
ANTHONY: Oh shit.
RODRIGO: Hey now, did you expect anything else.
ANTHONY: Listen Rodrigo, let’s not get ourselves expelled shall we?
FRANCISCO: You take the lead on this one, you seem ready for this.
RODRIGO: Tony keep walking, meet us at my car. Start her up to for me this is gonna be fun. (Tosses keys to Anthony).
FRANCISCO: Remember when we boxed together Rodrigo?
RODRIGO: You’re thinking my kind of language.
FRANCISCO: Jab, cross, uppercut, cross, then run to the car.
RODRIGO: What about finishing them off?
FRANCISCO: Don’t worry we’re just giving them a taste for now, we can finish it later.
(Attention goes to the bullies).
JESSICA: Troy stay out of this one ok?
TROY: What?!
DYLAN: Do as he says, Jason fights fair remember. He’s out for revenge. You’ll just get in our way anyways.
TROY: Fine.
JESSICA: (To Rodrigo and Francisco). You ready to get pummeled Spics?
RODRIGO: If pummeled means us whipping your ass then yeah.
(Fight breaks out. Scene note- fight will be choreographed. The ultimate ending results in Francisco and Rodrigo winning the fight and excitedly running to jump in Rodrigo’s car more dialogue may be written in. The scene goes to Victoria, Jessica, and Gloria who are all in Gloria’s room).
JESSICA: So how was your date with Mr. Argentina?
GLORIA: What are you talking about?
VICTORIA: Oh please, Glory, you haven’t smiled like that in school since you tried to get with Troy Miller in seventh grade. Let’s face it honey you’ve fallen in love.
JESSICA: So tell us about him.
GLORIA: Well what can I say, I don’t know why I feel the way I feel. We just met, yet is it crazy for me to say that I love him?
VICTORIA: Just a little bit sweetie…
JESSICA: Oh Victoria shush! Don’t you believe in love in first
sight?
VICTORIA: Well I know my mother wouldn’t allow me to be with someone I just met, especially not Francisco Mendoza…
GLORIA: I know he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed…
VICTORIA: Or the brightest bulb in the box, where the lights on but no one’s home.
JESSICA: Victoria!!
GLORIA: Listen, he’s sweet, kind, and so artistic. When we first made eye contact it felt as if a flower bloomed inside me. I know my father might not approve since ‘boys take you mind away from practicing to become the best’, but I can’t wait to see him again. Next time he said he wants me to show him around town.
JESSICA: Now I’m jealous.
VICTORIA: Oh crap he’s here!
JESSICA AND GLORIA: What!?
GLORIA: You two have to leave.
VICTORIA: Hell no, I want to stay and eavesdrop.
JESSICA: Victoria! (Pause). Ok, yeah, I want to stay too.
GLORIA: Ok you can stay, but you have to stay up here ok. Absolutely no eavesdropping!
VICTORIA: Fine.
JESSICA: Go he’s almost here!
(Gloria answers the door to see Francisco, as he goes up and hugs her).
GLORIA: Well it’s good to see you too.
FRANCISCO: Thank you Gloria.
GLORIA: Thank me? For what?
FRANCISCO: For giving me the chance to meet you. I knew before coming home I had to see you.
GLORIA: Well do you have to leave, you can come in. We can play piano?
FRANCISCO: I’d love to, but I have to go with my family for my birthday…
GLORIA: Oh sorry, yeah you should go.
FRANCISCO: I will see you again though piano girl. (Begins to walk away). I look forward to our lessons!
GLORIA: Goodbye lover boy, I’ll see you tomorrow at school.
